I took the Music Production class, as well, and thought it was pretty good.

... he just takes forever to get to it.

.... his lecture style could be a little off-putting to some.

I didn't notice until the end of last week that you can speed up the videos in the lower left corner. It glitches if you pause them, but even at double speed that course is easy to understand and follow.

Are these courses free? and if so can you share the link...  Are there exams at the end of the course and what does it certify you for?

You this read wrong....

Hi Jim, yes, there are actually a lot of free courses available (that seem to run in cycles). One site is https://www.coursera.org/, and the other is https://www.futurelearn.com/

I am not sure about the details of their certificates (since this is my first time), but the courses are informative. Coursera has the "Songwriting" and "Introduction to Music Production" running (now), and FutureLearn has "Critical listening for studio production."

The songwriting one comes across as poetry, and I was hoping for more music theory. Music production is a very good overview of general DAW principles... and Critical listening is incredibly challenging (for me) since it is similar to music production, but tests you by listening for differences in tracks (plus it will point out to you week 1 if your monitors are "crap"! )

I think you only get the certificates if you pay, but I could be mistaken.  In any case, the courses are excellent on both sites.  I'm going to use the Music production one as a basis for designing a course for kids.
