The Mountain Within

For my second piece posted here, I would like to offer something more experimental from a CD that's a couple of years old.  I do quite a lot of collecting and sculpting of sound.  Urban, nature, instruments...

The Mountain Within

This is a little story that goes with it:

"I began sculpting samples of cor anglais, oboe, flute, viola, violin and piano to make a palate of instrumental sounds suited to express the moods of the mountain (mt Wellington), to represent its immensity, majesty or its shifting choreography of cloud.  I then constructed a sculpture from old spoons, forks, an old saw and many other metallic objects which became a playable instrument of sorts.  From this I took samples to add gong-like and other metallic sounds to express the mood that sometimes comes when the mountain interrupts the closed-in busyness of a city-scape.  Finally, I used field recordings of wildlife and thunder to express something of the eeriness and earthiness I sometimes feel under the mountain's presence.  Mostly I wanted the listener to experience the mountain within, a serene immensity, informed by nature and suggested by the mountain."

Cheers

Wayne I enjoyed this a great deal. From a mix perspective I thought you brought all of the elements together quite well. I also enjoyed your playing against the soundscape backdrop. Thanks for sharing I enjoyed it a great deal.

    Mmorgan Ta. Glad you appreciate.

Rebel. Glad you could hear the mountain.

Chas Ta. Indeed it isn't every bodies tastes!

It kind of needs a meditatative attitude in the listening. A kind of internal listening.

Very ethereal and meditative.  This would be great music for pain therapy, which more and more hospitals and pain centers are using.  It transported me.

    All the best,

Beautiful and at the same time cautious about something might happen there in the mountains. Nice balanced composition of sounds.
