Please forgive my ignorance.... what specs would you like to know that are not in my signature and where do I find the information? I'm happy to list any info that helps. That's interesting about the 32-bit plugins. I've always wondered, can I go through and delete all the 32-bit plugins that also have 64-bit versions and would this do anything?

Hmmm.... I just went to look at my 32-bit plugins but in Sonar I only have two folders listed in the vst folders: c:\program files\common files\vst3 c:\vstplugins x64 I have a "c:\vstplugins x32" on my computer but I didn't realize Sonar wasn't even looking in there. Here's what I have in the two folders (if it matters/helps): I'm using the VST3 version of Vienna could I erase the 64-bit?

LOL... So always best then to start your own thread rather than piggy back... Krokodilen any chance you could do this please to avoid confusion (as we've seen). There's a good chance your issue is different (although current advise is still valid in your case). Thanks...

@Matt I saw the screenshot sorry I can't see anything right now of help. Please let us know about #4 and #23 I suggest ... and check your event viewer for different Sonar errors. Then we can move onto the next step, looks like Bob already has a good post lined up which he can just paste from another thread.

Hey Matt, I would not waste the time trying to sort/remove 32-bit plug-ins. There are a couple things with X3 that help you out there. First, in Preferences->File->VST Settings, the two checkboxes in the "VST3 Migration" should be checked, which will automatically take care of most of them for you (hide/replace). Second, 32-bit plug-ins have (32-bit) at the end in the browser, so you can make an effort not to insert them going forward.
ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero (Wi-Fi AC), i7-8700k, 16GB RAM, GTX-1070Ti, Win 10 Pro, Saffire PRO 24 DSP, A-300 PRO, plus numerous gadgets and gizmos that make or manipulate sound in some way.

I did say I won't post anymore, I just can't help myself!!! Here is an alternative to using debugging tools for windows.. If still crashing even after windows update and doing what they've told you, I'd like to suggest you download Diag Tool, and install it to the problem PC.. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40336 The Debug Diagnostic Tool (DebugDiag) is designed to assist in troubleshooting issues such as hangs, slow performance, memory leaks or fragmentation, and crashes in any user-mode process... Then use these instructions from this blog to generate a report... http://blogs.msdn.com/b/chaun/archive/2013/11/12/steps-to-catch-a-simple-crash-dump-of-a-crashing-process.aspx Go to the section from the mentioned blog titled: LAUNCH DEBUGDIAG and follow all the steps in the next section titled: SET UP A VERY BASIC CRASH RULE - they use an example against the notepad.exe process - you need to have loaded sonar and select the sonarprd.exe process instead... Then when you've activated the rule in the steps in that section, your ready to reproduce the crash - once you do this we should have a juicy report to look over Edit: If you can locate the existing sonarpdr.dmp you can use the DiagTool Analyzer, to do this simply run the analyser and select crash/hang/analysis option, then add data files button and navigate and add the dmp file and then hit start analysis..

Regardless windows update, update of drivers, switching on/off antivirus, running cake in safe mode, renaming AUD.INI, reinstall. Etc etc etc. Running a debugger process is a last resort type thing which I would avoid in a DAW environment (just like I would avoid ASIO4ALL). Sorry. If there was absolutely no other alternatives then maybe just maybe... but right now we have to go through standard troubleshooting. 9 times out of 10 this works.

Yes I have installed so many windows updates my head hurts.... it is apparently never ever ending. I went from IE8 to IE9 to IE10 to IE11. Seriously they couldn't just take me straight to IE11? Whatever.... will report back when I finally get a chance to work on some projects.

Uf the problems are occurring when 32-bit plugins are present, it is quite likely that one or more of them are the culprit. There were quite a few cases of this kind of issue. It used to happen to me, but I went through a process of firstly trying to use as many 64-bit plugins as possible, and then when any 32-bit ones were needed, I made sure that each one worked OK in 64-bit Sonar. What I then did was to move those 32-bit plugins that worked OK to a brand new sub-folder within my existing 32-bit plugin folder, and ONLY allowed that new sub-folder to be added to the search path in my 64-bit Sonar install. This eliminated crashes and freezes and all of that for me. Since then, I have literally just in the past week or so finished moving completely to 64-bit 3rd-party plugins, and have had nothing but smooth sailing. You may consider picking up an alternative to the BitBridge routine that comes with Sonar. It is the software that 'bridges' between 32-bit plugins and 64-bit Sonar. Some people that have had prior issues with certain 32-bit plugins in 64-bit Sonar, using BitBridge, have reported those problems going away when they purchased JBridge, which is a 3rd-party bridging application. Oh, if you have a 32-bit Sonar installed, it will still find any plugins that you move into that new sub-folder I refer to above, as Sonar automatically detects any sub-folders in the search path. I hope any of the above both makes sense and is helpful, Bob Bone

Thx, Great advise. I'll go through all my 32 bit vsts and try to figure out which ones playing nicely in Sonar64.
Ahh, JBridge. Never heard of that one. I will look into it.

Here is a link for JBridge: http://jstuff.wordpress.com/jbridge/ You might start with the 32-bit plugins you use the most frequently, and once you find out if they work OK, you will be at least able to move those into a new sub-folder, like I was talking about, and that will give you a few you are likely to want to use. Then, you can explore other 32-bit plugins as time and need arise. I created a sub-folder within my 32-bit VST Plugins folder, called Certified-x32-Plugins, and moved the ones that worked in x64 Sonar into that folder, then added that folder path to my x64 Sonar search path, making sure the main 32-bit VST Plugins folder was NOT included there. Hope this works for you - and JBridge may also work for some of those problematic 32-bit plugins as well. Bob Bone

I have all of the latest Microsoft updates. I have one 32-but plugin (Cube 2), and I use jbridge. For me Sonar X1D often crashes when closing a project. In these cases, I select "close program" from the error panel; Sonar appears to close. However, in these cases, the sonarpdr.exe process is still running, and it will not close when instructed to do so in Task Manager. The only way I can invoke Sonar again is to reboot my PC. I also notice that, some times, when opening a project, much of Sonar goes white, and " ... nor repsonding" is displayed in the upper left. Eventually, the project loads.

Hi mcdonalk, An alernative to Task Manager is another "MS prog", from the sysinternals suite, called process explorer. It's a bit more powerfull and informative than the usual Task Manage. The process explorer, even run in admin mod, will probably not help you with the sonare close crash but can help closing the sonarpdr.exe and give a clearer pic of what's running in your system.

You might be able to use MS DebugDiag tool in hang mode to report on the running threads of the process, log a case to cakewalk support and send them the report, cakewalk may identify the issue and they may find a workaround or even a fix, if they find a fix then next release X1 update should provide the fix...
