Many strange anomalies when opening 8.5 projects in X3d

Where to begin... I hope I can remember them well...

I'm currently working on two different projects both recorded with 8.5 and here's some strange things that have been occurring...

1. Sometimes when I try to save, I get a "General Error" and I'm unable to save... Here's some different things that solved it for me...

A) I had just done some editing with V-Vocal so I undid it and the file would save... But usually VV doesn't interfere at all

B) real common one tho it doesn't happen all the time. I have the timeline ad all tracks selected and I execute an export... Then the open file is reported as "dirty" (annoying issue for the last few versions) and tho unnecessary, I try to save again and get the general error. Un selecting everything allies the save to work...

Here's the strangest one...

I have a song that upon opening, all tracks are fixed down the center and panning doesn't affect them at all... I checked interleaved issues, offset, and every path... Funny, but the sub groups can pan just fine...?

There are some others, but these have appeared a number of times in the last couple of weeks... Anyone else seeing this?

Hi Keni, the "General Program Error" on save I have seen before, and for me that was the I/O buffers being too small (Advanced Mode: Preferences->Audio->Sync and Caching). I had to bump them up to 512 to be able to save (the project I was playing with was a big one). If you already have them at 512, try 1024 (or possibly 2048) to see if that helps. After that happened, I left mine at 512 ever since.

You might want to check Bitflipper's post here, specifically:

    6. Avoid mixing mono and stereo effects on the same track if you can. SONAR is smart enough to know about the inputs and outputs of each plugin and will create internal mono and/or stereo paths as needed. But you can't see this happening, so it can lead to confusion. More than one forum thread has started with "the pan knob is broken!". It's often a result of mixing mono and stereo effects.

I too have found odd, and seemingly random, behavior when opening 8.5.3 projects in x3. Could have something to do with plugins, templates, who knows. For me I found it easiest to just complete projects in 8.5, and only use x3 for new projects. If for some reason I want to complete an older project in x3, I will export audio files for the old project and then import them to a new one.

    Thanks guys...

I found easy work arounds for the general error situation without changing my buffers... As I posted... My biggest problem is actually with the one song file where no panning affects any track tho all interleaved are normal and pan works for the Aux busses... I may load the audio files into a new project for this one... Exactly what I was planning as last resort... And forcing each output to creat files starting from the top so that I don't have to struggle to line things up... (I' chose not to yet due to the number of smaller, placed clips)...

I've run across other oddities but I'm not certain they are from opening old files as I've had them happen in new files... And I'm sure it's no simple task to have Sonar determine what to do with things that have changed since the older release...

I thought to mention these issues mostly to alert people.... I do have work arounds for any of these tho they are sometimes a pain or need a spare chunk of time in between now and now..... ;-)

Thanks again for the replies and assistance...
