UAD & Sonar

I am running X1 producer and was wondering if there have been any issues with UAD2 cards? UAD says Sonar is not one of their proven software platforms, so I figured I would ask here.

Thanks!

Yes lots of them, please use the search box above, and the letters UAD and you will immediately stumble into a lot of threads. There are some issues UAD will need to fix, and there will be some workarounds introduced with X3E to relieve some issues (but won't fix them as the issues mainly lie with Universal Audio). Anyway please don't trust what I or anybody says specifically, there are plenty of statements from Cakewalk in those threads to take heed of (please especially avoid peoples rewrites or "artistic" reinterpretations or re-rendering of what was actually said by Cake).

At the end of the day it seems that is a light at the end of the tunnel but it's a matter of UAD getting fixes out + Sonar X3E patch coming out which is taxing the patience of UAD users. Also people are able to roll back their software as a workaround. Sadly it really isn't Cakewalks fault but of course they are being held to account anyway.

I'm not sure specifically though about the situation with X1  though, I'm looking at it from the X3 angle (and you are not stating any specific hardware). So here is a general response to a general question, anyway please ignore what I said and have a good thread read.

Thanks...

I use UAD plugs all the time and I have many of them.  There are a few annoying bugs like a window popping up saying you have non UAD in the middle of a UAD chain etc but honestly, I have not had any issues that have prevented me from running any plugins under any circumstances.  Other people say they have but I have not and continue to use them as my primary plugins in both insert, loop, FX Chains and FX Chain in ProChannel.  Sometimes if they act up (usually when adding a new one into the project) I need to toggle the FX button on and off and it fixes any funny anomalies the crop up.  Annoying yes, fatal or work impacting, I would say no.

Pretty much the same for me on X3d.

Back OT. I had zero UAD problems back in the X1 days so I would say to the OP you're probably golden for now.

Don't bother with this forum's search function; it doesn't work well. Use Google Advanced Search instead.

By the way, I have 2 UAD cards and don't have any issues with them in Sonar X2.

UAD-2 cards and plug-ins work without issues for most folks using SONAR X1 & X2, so you should be just fine. A few niggles (nothing show stopping) have popped up using X3. Both Cake and UA are aware and I am sure these will be fixed in the near future. I am using X3d and the only issue that really affects me is just an annoyance. A UAD pop-up warning dialog when using a native plug-in between two UAD. Just click "Ok" and continue on, as it does not adversely affect anything. Just a nuisance pop-up. SONAR X1, you should not have any issues.

FYI, depending on your OS (x32 or x64), just make sure to only have SONAR pick up the VST path & scan for one or the other. You cannot have SONAR (or any DAW app for that matter) scanning and using both x86 & x64 UAD versions or you will have serious UAD performance issues. If you have an x64 OS just use the UAD 64bit versions and you will be golden. No need to use that bitbridge nonsense anymore.

Cheers,

Same here. But I did read that dragging a plug-in from one track's FX bin to another causes problems, so I don't do that. I install each plug-in individually.
