I like the music, has an oldies Beatles approach, but I don't like the vocals at all. They sound particularly pitchy in the first verse, got a little better after that. Again, the music is fine, mixed pretty well to my ear.

I can see why you didn't want to give up on this Terry, this is a great song. It's a very clean mix, and when I turn the volume down I lose everything but your vocal, it's still loud and cuts through. I would've preferred some mastering effect like a reverb, but that's just a personal preference only. I really enjoy the tone of your voice, it's different and makes me sit up and listen. I haven't been on this forum for very long so I didn't hear the earlier version you posted, but this is good songwriting.

Hi Terry I think I remember this one from the original post. Great song with a retro feel. I like the vocal - it has a Bob Dylan/Tom Petty feel about it. My only crit is that the vocal may be a bit too loud in the mix.

Hi VODA, THANKS FOR THE HEADS UP. I GOT SOME CORDS MIXED UP. I'M TO CLOSE TO THIS ONE NOW, AND IT'S HARD FOR ME TO HEAR THINGS AS WELL AS I SHOULD, BUT I WAS USING SOME WRONG CORDS IN THE BASS LINE. I'M NOT SURE IF IT FIXES THE VOCAL SOUND OR NOT. ALSO, I'M NOT SURE IF THE RIGHT PIANO HAS A BAD EFECT OR NOT. I DO EVERY THING START TO FINISH, SO I'M NEVER ON THE OUT SIDE OF A SONG. SO, I THANK YOU FOR THE HELP TERRY http://soundcloud.com/sil...ld-have-known-better-1

Terry, you write the most unique songs that are tailored for your voice so well. I particularly like this song and its sparse arrangement. However, I agree that you might try some pitch correction on your vocal, as I hear the pitchiness, too. I believe that would turn this song into a gem. This song is too good to ignore.

Cool tune. Yeah get yourself a copy of Melodyne. I use it on all my vocal tracks, no matter the singer and no matter how well they have sung the track. There's always something that needs fixing. THere's no shame in using pitch correction software. I guarantee that every singer you hear on the radio was pitch fixed in some way during the production/mixing. That's the reason that when they play the Grammys and other awards shows and concerts, they are singing slightly out of tune if they're not lip synched. Not even the best can sing in tune all the time. Don't give up on a song if you like it too. I hear the entire "too close to the song" story. It happens. Mostly, with me, it's that I get locked into hearing it a certain way and have a hard time making the changes to it to hear it a different way. Set it on the shelf and forget about it for a few months. Go on a write and work on some other things to get the brain refocused on other things. Then, play it again after that time has passed. Quite often, you will now hear things that DO need to be changed. Sometimes, just a subtle change or sometimes a complete and total redo of the production.

Hate to be 'old school', but being as Terry like all of us, has a home studio with no money burning on the clock, how about just doing a re-take sung in tune? Would you re-do an out of tune guitar part or fix it with Melodyne?
