Flappy Birds Craze

This app (when installed on an iPhone 5s) was going for $100,000 on ebay just a week ago.

"Flappy Bird crazy time comes after the game’s developer, Dong Nguyen, a 29-year-old from Vietnam, announced that he had decided to pull the game from the iTunes App Store and Google Play. Nguyen was reportedly raking in some $50,000 per day from advertising revenue from the free mobile game, which reached the top of the App Store charts and was downloaded millions of times.
While Nguyen considers the game “a success,” he explained on Twitter that the game “ruins his simple life,” which appears to be the reason he took the game down."

Interestingly, my brother in law who had downloaded this for free, is looking to get somewhere around $10k for it on ebay......so if you have this on your iPhone.........

Never heard of "Flappy" Birds.  (Only the Angry ones.)

I'm guessing this is just a ploy and that he'll "cave in" and put it back up to even more sales success.

If I lived in Vietnam and was making $50k per day, you can bet that I wouldn't be worried about success and I sure as heck wouldn't be living in Vietnam!

Craig, you could/should easily write an app (being in da Biz an all) like this and see where it takes you.......Angry Pigs?? (with sequels....Becan in the Mist, Becan Zombies on the Prowl, Becan - The last empire etc...) It would market well with Angry Birds (considering they're attacking pigs).
Just have to make it so frustrating to win, that'll just keep em reelin in (the years to come).

I just checked that meself......I thought by now, some Juan might have already complained to the authorities in hopes of getting it thrown in the sewer CH.

What would be unfunny is if you posted another shamless plug in an ultra-more-supercalifragilistic-creative way and revive the fred.

You mean I'm actually supposed to be making products?  I thought all I needed to do was come up with a clever name, make a dull website and print some nice business cards!  Boy have I been misinformed...  All of this sounds like a lot of WORK!

I gotta call bullsh*t on that story. Sounds like a page from Apple's "sorry, you can't buy an iPhone today" playbook.

Ad revenue from free games is pennies per thousands of downloads. To make 50k per day you'd have to have tens of millions of downloads every day. The vast majority of them earn less than $100 per month (still a significant income if you live in Vietnam!). Just visit some of the forums frequented by these developers - a common complaint is the ad distributor won't pay them until they've hit some number like $200 in their account.

True, some of the more popular games such as Angry Birds have seen hundreds of millions of downloads. I doubt even they are making 50k per day from click-through revenue.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Every time you make Talking Tom repeat a bad word, somebody in Taiwan gets a tenth of a penny. True made-up fact.

Equally true, if 1,000 people click on the banner ads at the top of this forum, one Cakewalk employee's child is released from a slave-labor camp in Uzbekistan. Get clickin'!
