    Is it needed...no...

The question that begs to be asked is...will you use it?

Many Mix Engineers used to swear by the Renn Plugs...and
many still use them...probably more so because the are
"familiar" with them I would think.  $33.27 at PluginDiscounts...

I've refrained from replying to this thread, what with the cease-and-desist order and all and having no credibility as a self-professed Waves non-fan. But I read the user documentation for this plugin (it didn't take long) and it does sound as though it could be useful. It's basically a dumbed-down gate/compressor/limiter, presumably with the slow attack and release times often used on vocal tracks. Nothing you couldn't do with, say, every other plugin you listed in the OP.

But it's only $33.27, so why not?

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Actually this is one of my Holy Grail Plugs. I don't think there's a vocal track I don't use it on.
I always record about 4 takes for each vocal and then chop them up to get the final one.
I don't always have the best posture and or distance from the mic and many of these takes are at different levels and sonic quality.

I use the 25 db reduction preset.

The Vox plug makes the cobbled take always sound like it was one seamless recording. I haven't been able to duplicate this with any other plugs.

It also works with any tracks that are uneven in volume.

I also use it to boost a quiet track rather than adjust the gain.

The plug also seems to have a small CPU footprint. If I don't bounce harmonies down to stereo I just drop a Vox Ren plug on each vocal channel.

It comes in mono and stereo when you purchase it.

I, personally, could not record without this plug.

Other than that I don't own any Waves stuff.

Wow, Mark, you (almost) even sold me! It does indeed sound like a most useful tool for a small price.

    Bitflipper-
For that price it is too good to pass up.
I don't think everyone else will use it as much as I do.
I actually found out about it here in these forums many years ago. Someone asked how to get better vocals and the responder said Vox Ren and good EQ.

It is magically easy to use. I did try to simulate it with other plugs and nothing came close to it.

I use it only on the initial vocal recording track. All EQing and compression of the signal is done afterwards usually on the Vocal Bus.

Sadly I've never liked any of the other Waves Plugs and they are pretty pricey.

Sorry for late response to this thread, been away from the forum for a while...

Thanks for all your input. I didn't buy R Vox now, even though it was "cheap" at the time, I was short on money because I purchased other plugins and a analog synth:)

Will most likely buy it later on, have some other plugins from Waves that I love; Dave Audes EDM tools with C6 Multiband Compressor, L3 Multimaximizer, Trans X etc. Also got RComp, RBass, CLA 2A, Center and some others.
