Can't Split Clip?? Split option 'greyed out'
Its doing my head in - I have recorded a piece of vocal audio which have added fx to but there is a small 5 second or so part of the track that i want to delete (as i came into early singing it) but for some reason the split option is greyed out and i cant get rid of it.... I thought by splitting the clip either side of the mistake it would omit - i don't know why it is greyed out - i can split clips on all my other tracks fine? I must be doing something obviously simply wrong? Thanks in advance.

How are you trying to split the clip? There are a couple of ways to do it depending on which software you're using. Speaking of which, if you would include some more info in your post like which version of Cakewalk's software you are using, your operating system and whether it's 32- or 64-bit and your audio interface/sound card, or better yet, permanently attach it in your signature, that will help us help you better and we won't have to ask what software, OS, etc. you're using every time you post a question. With that info, someone will be able to help, I'm sure.

Hi, added a signature so hopefully that gives enough info? Using Sonar X1 (total beginner to all this - teaching myself thru tutorial vids etc - been using it about a month) I'm guessing I've clicked something somewhere which is stopping me from splitting the clip. I have a recorded a vocal clip inot one of my track lanes and have 'v vocaled' it and added an effect - problem is i have a small 5 second piece where i came in to early on one of the verses which i just want to delete of the recorded clip.

Sorry, should've added - I'm trying to split the clip by clicking my the 'now time' marker and pressing 'S', but have also tried using right mouse button menu (hence where ive seen it greyed out) and also tried trimming it form the clip using the scissor icons but all i can seem to do is highlight the bit i want to remove and not actually remove it.

Is it still a V-Vocal clip or have you bounced it? IIRC VV-clips can't be edited normally.

The same thing bouncing always does.... Turns it into a normal audio clip with the FX embedded. C'moon! You did know that! You have the help files and manual and videos and whatever :o)

I've never used V-vocal... I don't think I even have it, but it sounds like Kalle may be right. Your sig is helpful, except bits. The memory suggests it's 64-bit, though.

No worries badhoon. I had similar troubles getting started. I thought that after I closed V-Vocal it was a done deal, but not so fast. Bouncing in this case, to my unschooled way of looking at it, is like 'saving' the changes and releasing the clip. Once that's done the clip should be available for more editing. And also, before bouncing, you can right click on that clip and select the Remove FX Region option, which is like an 'undo' of the V-Vocal edits. I believe in the upper right corner of the clip you'll see text something like 'V-Vocal FX'. After bouncing or removing the FX region, that text will be gone. Good luck.

Cheers guys, No Kalle, i'm afraid i didn't know what bouncing was - haven't got that far - i'm more of a play around with it first and see what happens. I am that much of a novice. One question on bouncing - can i 'unbounce' it again afterwards or does that 'seal' the clip so to speak? i.e. so i can't change the fx again? Gregy - i actually think its a 32 bit - will check and add. Lets try bouncing.....

Bouncing to tracks creates a new audio track and leaves the original track untouched, bouncing to clips combines clips, MIDI or audio, on the same track.
