Cool! I think you guys did a great job. The vocalist did well - we've tried this song in our cover band so I know that doing Bono's vocals can be difficult, but your guy did a great job. If I was being snarky and nit-picky I might comment that he's a tiny bit pitchy, but it's pretty minor compared to his overall performance. Great musicians, all of them played well. I enjoyed it and it's easy to dance to - I give it a 95!

Little pitchy there Dawg.....LOL. You should have heard it before I corrected it. This guy has always had a hard time with intonation but his delivery and stage presence kind of trumped that. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for listening and giving feedback, I really appreciate it.

    Dear Rocky,

I think you captured the enrgy of the original well...I am only having a hard time with your singers voice.

It seems not to fit to U2 songs for some reason. I much more enjoyed his voice on the REM song. But this is on another thread...

It's always risky to cover an iconic band or song because people already have an expectation in their heads before you even start.  Sure, the singer doesn't sound like Bono texture wise, but he captured the energy and vibe quite well.  The rest of the song sounds good, and I commend you for the effort.  I've enjoyed both of your posts and look forward to hearing more from you.

    All the best,

Really tight and energetic version of one U2's best songs, with a sustained break-neck momentum. The guitar sound and playing is outstanding.

    Cool cover.

Ya, about the same thing. Don't know the song, but it sounded okay, perhaps guitar be better in both l and r channels. Well, sometimes it is, maybe that is the way it goes, I do not know.

I like the vocals better on this one. Covers are always tough to listen to objectively. I really like this version and the whole vibe of the production. Sure U2 is slicker, but that's why I like your stripped down rocking version. Ya know do something different with it...plus we don't have their budget.

I was never a U2 fan, so I'm not really familiar with the song, but this sounds good. I played for many years in a 3 piece band so getting it to sound full can be tricky, but you guys nailed it.

Every time someone records a cover of a well known band / song it is always compared to the original. And no matter how fine a cover is it is "never as good as...".
This is one of the reasons I don't like to make covers.

Not being a fan of U2 or Bono this sounds like a reasonable cover the mix works here.

Thanks guys! To be honest I didn't expect so much positive feedback. I dug up the tracks from the archives to see what I could do with them and give X3 a work out. I'm in the process of remodeling so I haven't been able to record anything new in awhile so I've been mixing old tracks with a VRM box. The good news is that my new digs will be much nicer, The bad news is that it will be half the size. I have some bulky stuff to get rid of due to the downsize: A Ramsa WRT-820. A Leslie 25 that's set up for guitar, Some misc. Rack gear, an old frequency generator, who knows what I'll find when I start digging around.

Since I don't like U2 at all, I'm not familiar with this tune. So, I was able to listen to your version first. I thought the vocals came across a bit cheesy. The overall tone was way thinner than the original. Maybe you should try a more challenging song.

You (the collective you) have made this song your own.  No it doesn't sound exactly like U2 (e.g., the vocals, the bass is too prominent, etc.) but you have captured the energy of the song and put your own signature to it.  It is tight, well performed, and rocked --- so, IMHO well done!!

Every time a U2 song came on the radio, or someone put their record on, I'd leave the room. Then I went and saw them live. Now that's where they really shine. I kinda get the same feeling with this song. If I went to pub and this band was playing I would think "hey these guys are rockin'". It's a great sound.

Thanks Rebel. I felt the same way about " The Who" way back in the day. I just didn't get what all the hoopla was about, then I saw them live and became hooked. John Entwistle was amazing, Roger Daltry's voice was smooth as silk, Kieth Moon was pounding the skins and Pete Townsend just rocked.
