Thanks.  I have Slate, EXDrummer, Superior Drummer, Addictive Drums and was not looking for another drum sampler, but for this price and given the fantastic praise I read around here for Eco I ordered it from MF.  Thanks for posting this great price.

Just noticed that MF is shipping this; it is not a download.  Does FXpansion have a demo version of ECO that can be downloaded?  I did not find one on their site.

answer to my own question.  No there is no upgrade path from BFD Eco to full BFD 3.

from the FAQ on FXpansion BFD3 website:

Can I upgrade from BFD Eco or BFD 1.x?
No, there is currently no upgrade path from these products.

so BFD Eco is pay for what ya get and that's all ya get.  Bummer.

That's really odd.....(I was certain there'd be an upgrade path and didn't want to keep buying more and more drums). You'd think that FXpansion would want people to upgrade to BFD3 or whatever full version.......

Yea I would consider BFD 3 if there was some cheaper upgrade path from Eco.

I got ToonTrack EZ Drummer and did the Superior 2.0 upgrade path for cheaper.

I think BFD is the only major drum library/program I don't have at this point.

Re: BFD Eco at MF 2014/03/05 14:51:12 (permalink)
I picked BFD Eco up yesterday. I'm adding it to Superior and Addicted. I have a good friend that uses BFD 3 exclusively and is very happy with it. I usually use Superior in the studio where it takes a while to load the samples. I have a pretty large library of Toontrack kits. Addicted has filled the bill for live work as it only takes seconds to load. I can jump from song to song with no load time trouble at all. I am interested to see if Eco will bring anything different to the table. Anyway, you can't beat 19.95 for a pretty powerful looking drum collection.

Sonar Platinum, Sonar X3e, Sonar X2a , Sonar X1 Expanded and 8.5.3 (32 and 64 bit), Windows 10 on a Toshiba P75-A7200 Laptop with i7 @ 2.4 quad and 8 gigs of RAM and secondary WD 1 Tb drive, Windows 10 desktop, Asus i5 @ 3.2 quad, 12 gigs RAM, 1 Tb drive, 1 500 gig drive, MOTU 24io, 2 Roland Studio Captures, Saffire 6 USB for laptop, Soundtracs Topaz Project 8 mixer, Alesis Monitor 2s, Event BAS 20/20s, Roland Micro-Monitor BA-8s, and 45 years worth of collecting FX, Mics, Amps, Guitars, and Keyboards!

Hurrah for progress
I know you weren't so keen on the new look but I think you'll find it easier to navigate especially with the new tabbed libraries which I think have made such a difference to the overall user experience.
When you have the drum tab showing you can click on a snare without committing to load and it will audition in real time which I find really useful. BFD2 never did this properly.

You say you're awaiting delivery, am I to take it that you ordered the usb stick and not the download ?
I was going to advise doing that, although my download and install was smooth as a babies backside quite a few people have found it to be rough as a badgers arse

That's like giving twaddle a 'legal high'.

I don't quite understand why there's no upgrade path from Eco but you can still get an upgrade from Eco to BFD2 and then from 2 to 3. It's kind of worth it in the "value for money" sense as BFD2 gives you 10 very excellent kits with IMO a wider variety of sounds than BFD3 so you don't lose out completely but as you say, you already have plenty of drum apps. I would suggest getting used to Eco and maybe then get the demo of BFD3 to see if you think it offers enough to get your wallet out.

Re: BFD Eco at MF 2014/03/09 21:44:38 (permalink)
got my ECO in the mail from MF yesterday.  For $19.95 it is a nice addition to my drum libraries.  I have not been able to get ECO to see the Groove Monkee libraries.  So, i am reinstalling Groove Monkee products in hope that I just did not install the ECO midi grooves when I first downloaded them

[EDIT:  I found out that I had not installed the ECO library and just went back and installed them from my Groove Monkee installers.\

Still would like to know if BFD ECO reads BFD or BFD3 grooves or does it have a specific map just for ECO?

My BFD Eco library shows all my BFD2 and BFD1 grooves as well my groove monkey ones and others but not
the BFD3 ones. There aren't as many grooves that come with BFD3 to be honest and since BFD Eco doesn't have a drum map for either BFD2 or BFD3 it would mean remapping them all.

If you were to get either BFD2 or BFD3 it's almost certain you would stop using BFD Eco after a while anyway so it wouldn't really matter.

Hi Steve.

Just to let you know I eventually used the download to install my BFD3 and it all seems to be there & working fine.
The new interface is definitely a lot cleaner than the old one, and I've not had to open the manual yet - though I expect I'll have to at some point ha ha!!

While I find the interface a bit "ho-hum" it's definitely clean and usable.
What is NOT ho-hum is the sound....

That's good news, I guess it there's anything to be learned it's that as with bad CD's in the past it seems that usb sticks can also be bad. I'd thought they'd be much more reliable than CD's.

I agree on both points, BFD2 had a lot of sex appeal and eye candy but BFD3 is quicker and easier to get around and the sound speaks for it's self of course
