Swapping computer: What to save?
I'll be receiving a new computer in a week and i'm wondering what I should save (and could restore) onto my new setup.
I'm currently using X1 under WIN/XP 32bits and will move to a WIN7/PRO 64bits machine. I will eventually go to X3 but not before I get X1 working on my new machine because I don't like to make too many changes at the same time. So, which directories/files should I backup and then restore to my new setup. Any special thing that I might have to be aware of?
I'm really worried about that computer change (I have a gut feeling that it's going to be a nightmare with this 32 to 64 bits change).
BTW, before anybody goes that route, the reason I did not go for a WIN8 machine is that I have too much outboard gear that don't have WIN8 drivers and never will (and don't work in compatibility mode).

Whenever I buy a new computer, I take the hard drive out of the old one and install it on the new one as an additional drive. Once you've installed everything, and copied over the obvious stuff (vst, audio samples, cakewalk projects folders) you will still have the peace of mind that should you realise something is missing later on, you can just look on the original drive for it. After a while, take out/replace the extra drive (if it's old, it's likely to fail)

+1 I have been doing that as well. Just be sure to get Win 7 up and online before connecting the old drive.

But one thing that many forget is to save personal presets for all your plugins.

I got some of the trayless hd holders, they work good.
When I switched OS, I just put in a new drive and started fresh, then I can go back to my old system if I need to etc.

I've seen a few of these that didn't make sense.
I think someone may be touching the wrong spot on a smartphone screen.

I think it is a misclick. I did a quick pass to mark spam messages this morning, and the quickest is to scroll through the thread to mark them, but there are a handful of posts that are legitimate using that method. I think once you mark it you, cannot unmark it.
