re-installation woes... iLok
Most of my stuff is working? But I can't seem to get it to read and install my very expensive reverb plug-in Altiverb 6. I uninstalled it, I re-installed it using their iLok drivers, I put my iLok in another machine to make sure it could see the licences? I checked other plugs that use that damn thing... It's always worked well, but I'm beginning to see why people go on about them. I am almost all the way back up, just Altiverb (that I know of) in the way at this point. Then I'll ghost my C: drive and put it in the safe...

Have to harass the Altiverb people. They may send you to talk to Pace, who may send you back and so on :/. Unfortunately, sometimes DRM is a pain and causes issues. I've seen it at work plenty of times (FlexLM issues there mostly). So call Audioease first and see what they say. Also if you want you can try Pace's iLok License Manager. Just go to their site and install them, then run it and have it run a sync/repair. That'll get all the licenses on the iLok sync'd with Pace's database.

Only problem I have had in the recent past with i-loks is when I was installing 32bit based vst (soundtoys at the time) on a X64 system. I had to reinstall the drivers from i-lok to get things back working.

Open the Ilok Manager...
Right Click on the Ilok Icon...
Select Sync/Repair...
That should help...if not ...no idea...

They worked it out, I needed to install the latest version for Windows, however the latest version 6 was not visible on their website, so they had to shoot me a link to it. As of now, I am officially back on-line, took several weeks to do so. Now I'm going to Ghost that C: drive and put it in the safe ;-)

Backups are a good thing.
Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

Glad you got it working. I was going to advise that the only realistically sensible thing to do with iloks are to 'discard them immediately' and then start the process of trying to forgive yourself for ever buying one in the first 'f-in' place - then work on putting back the pieces of what's left of your temporarily shattered life together - and then moving on! But since you're up & running - you should be good to go - at least for another few weeks to a month or so - before the thing stops working permanently - [knowing iloks]. Otherwise, what will you be using to 'ghost' your C: drive, if I may ask? I'm ready to do the same and am open to ideas.

Symantec Ghost, one would presume (hence the name) :). I'm a fan of Acronis Trueimage personally though for drive imaging.

Have you tried both Sycraft or only Acronis?

I only have a couple of VST's that use iLok, but haven't had any problems even when I moved to a new PC. I did have an iLok go bad and fortunately I bought it from Sweetwater and it was still under the Sweetwater 2nd year warranty and they replaced it. I did have to "jump through hoops" to get iLok to transfer my licenses to the new iLok. I agree with don't buy anything that requires iLok, what I have with iLok I'll keep but any future purchases will not include anything that uses iLok. I use Macrium Reflect (paid version) for my full hard drive backups (the free version will work for most). I used to use Acronis but it failed me twice trying to restore and it didn't get a third chance, I dumped it. The Macrium backups take less time than the Acronis backups did. In addition Macrium automates the WinPE Rescue Disk creation operation, with Acronis it requires having the Plus version and it is a manual process. Another issue, I had problems with the standard Acronis bootable rescue disk which uses Linux as it wouldn't work correctly on either my Gigabyte motherboard system or my ASUS motherboard system (wouldn't recognize all the hard drives connected). The WinPE bootable rescue disk does recognize all the drives attached.

I tried Acronis Western Digital Version, which is what my 2 drives were that I wanted to back up, and it didn't seem to work like I had hoped. That's why I'm asking. Thanks for the info fireberd. Never heard of Macrium. I'll check it out.

We use Ghost Solution Suite, which is Symantec's enterprise versions of Ghost, at work. I own Acronis for my own personal use. I find Acronis to be better software than Ghost personally.
