Raspy voice effect
I'm a relative newbie to Sonar X - does anyone know how to create a raspy voice effect similar to what you often hear when someone belts out a high note?

I don't think you can use an effect for that. I've found that you have to make your voice do it.

Take your vocal track and run it through a guitar distortion plugin and experiment with that.

What Dude said, only make it a parallel track and automate the volume to get the "rasp" on the phrases that need it.

In order to record or produce a 'raspy voice similar to when someone belts out a high note' you will need a person who can sing that. There is not effect to make that happen without it sounding artificial and robotic. so all you need is a mic, a person who can sing what you want, pre-amp and sonar. Get all those things and you can record that voice CJ

A Jack Daniels plugin might do it. Time delay is in years though ....

Apparently no one here has ever tried singing while suffering a soar throat, head cold or flu. It's amazing how deep and raspy one's voice gets while under those influenzas influences.  Not that I'd advocate ruining one's health just to sound like Kim Carnes... Still it's sad I don't get sick anymore.

Sit in your car and belt AC/DC as loud as you can for a few hours, then record your vocal tracks; you'll get 70 year old Bob Dylan rasp.

My TC Helicon VoiceWorks Plus will do that, but it is a hardware unit. I don't know of a plug in with that feature.
