    Cheers Rik,
Haha yes, given my profile photo you would expect some gt stuff. I'm trying other things at the mo, so am writing a night/darkness themed album. Thanks for adding the link.
Just wish I could mix as well as you guys on the forum.

I enjoyed that compositionally nicely constructed piece.

I might be temped to play with some of the spacial feel of some of the component parts to my furry ears there are a couple of places were it gets a little to aurally confusing.  Some sounds sit on top of others and confuse each other.  I note you have X3 Pro try using channel tools and some M/S processing to give each part its own space in the mix.

Thanks John, I did enjoy composing it.
To be honest I don't really know how to improve it sonically. That's kinda where I need help.

I think it sounds pretty good the way it is. If you are going to add additional instruments, you will definitely need to carve out space in the mix, but this sounds pretty good as it is so far. The piano sounds a little dark, may be your intent, but I'd like to hear more air on it...

One suggestion, if you want to experiment, would be to move the piano more towards the center and place the strings around the piano (left and right). Then send the piano to a bus and add a tempo-based delay with modulation and fade this in and out to add some rhythm...not too much... You could even make that delay move around the space by sending that bus to another bus with another delay with a different rhythm. Lots of things you could do here...

    Regards,
    Dan

Good morning people. Thanks for your kind words.

I wasn't planning on adding any other instruments. I'm keeping the piece delicate and trying to fit with the theme, night and meadow.
I do have the piano & violin placed centre, strings 60 to the left, cello 60 to the right. I have the piano sent to a bus and then onto a verb bus (Breverb). I will give it a go at using your delay idea.
    I do have a newer file up;

I think it's an improvement. Have a listen please and let me know what you think.

I'm a fan of EW products personally... People like to Biotch about the Play engine? But I really like their stuff. If you don't have Gypsy? (I know it's old, I don't even know if they still sell it? But I really like it)

This has a dark and somber feel to it... (like my last blind date?) Thank God she was from the Netherlands so we could "go Dutch?" I never got to her "Nether Lands..."  (Good thing since we went Dutch.)

Nicely done piece but seems to be missing some depth.  I am not a big fan of instrumentals unless there is some strong lead instrument that takes me away.  Melancholy or whatever it needs some thing.  Now, that's just my opinion.  I have many melancholy times and therefore like the music.  Give me a good hard rocking song and then a smooth melancholy tune and I'm good.   I am listening again to see if I can hear just what was bothering me.  For me, some percussion or something around 1:00 would have worked for me.  I'm assuming that's not what you were shooting for or it would be there.  Anyway, good tune and the mix seems fine.

Hey thanks for listening again Robbie, Gypsy is still around and funny enough a friend of mine also said I should get it. Perhaps in the future. just spent a few quid on solo violin, Steinway piano & HW strings. If I keep added more EW I'm gonna need a new PC.

Thanks Warren, I'm going for a delicate piece on this one. Just picture the title in your mind when listening to the tune. I do the heavy rock songs in my band, this is just me trying something different.

I enjoyed this! I am also a fan of melancholy, so it is right up my alley. You must have already made some changes based on recommendations because I thought it sounded nice and wide. Simple but effective.

I did like this. Very moody and certainly very listenable. I too would have liked a little more movement on the piano. It's very loud and up front all the time, there are times where i would have liked it to have drifted a little into the background then come forward again to give the piece more light and shade.

I thought it sounded pretty good as is, I am listening to the last take, so have no idea what all has been changed or added. The movements seem fine based on the title and the concept behind the piece. It certainly makes you feel like you out in the middle of a meadow at night stuck in a rain storm. The darkness in the piece fits in very well because of the nature of the piece. I like my East West Boesendorfer 290 piano, has some great sounds to it, but this one you used fits the piece nicely. I liked the use of the thunder and stormy/rainy effects, they kind of tied everything together for me. I think the mix you have now is pretty nice and everything seems to be in their own space withot being to far spread out. Very nicely done and sounds great.

Thank you one more time John for checking out all of my postings.

If you can picture being out on a meadow at night then I'm doing something right.

I've just started to move to Eastwest, loving the sound quality. Need more of their products. I'm eyeing up the choir one at the mo.
