Sonar Producer Naming and Updates
I don't get the Sonar Producer Naming and Updates letters. I got and email that says, update to Sonar X3, then I come to the forum and all the posts are for Sonar 8. What gives? Is Sonar X3 actually Sonar 8? And with the updates, it is named X3e, with the e, does that mean there has been five updates to X3, a, b, c, d, e? Thanks for the help! : /

Don't you see the X series at the top? It's pretty obvious to me, but seems many don't see the drop down or something. Sonar X series Sonar Producer and studio ( should be called 8.5 and older) Sonar Home Studio Sonar LE The confusion is they are calling this forum Producer/ studio which is also used in naming the by X series. Real dumb of them and there are people posting questions about x series all the time. We have been recommending they change the name, but, why should they care. People posting here are not what make them money. But anyhow.. You'll still get a good X3 answer as most of the helpful users look at all the forums ( we have no life) Also 100's of issues are universal to all versions. But there are probably 100's of people using the x series forum and only a few visit this one. So you'll get more answers posting on the correct forum.

Uh...So Sonar Producer is totally different from Sonar X Producer? : / I bought Sonar Producer years ago (I thought that was top of the line). I buy the upgrades every year, but don't pay close attention otherwise. I think the last upgrade I bought was Sonar Producer X2. Did I buy the wrong upgrade, or was that a downgrade version? Would the "Sonar Producer X3e" be the right upgrade for me if I want to stay with the top of the line product? Man, all these number and letters is worse than a algebra course!

Life is full of surprises, isn't it ? The publishing campaign of X-series was so big in 2010-2011 that I must say you've been sound asleep :o). Yes and No. Producer series is Producer series, that's the flagship still. After 8.5 it was re-named SONAR X -series, because the changes were so big, it was totally re-designed, and thus a forum of its own is justified. "Would the "Sonar Producer X3e" be the right upgrade for me if I want to stay with the top of the line product?"As SONAR 8.5 hasn't been available for something like three years, X3e is the only option to stay in Producer line(well, you may find X2 on the shelves somewhere).
SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre - Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc. The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

The numbers are sort of from the year. Sonar 6 was from around 2006 Sonar 7 2007 and 8 from 2008. Then the X was to signify a new decade. They are not perfectly synced but pretty close. Calkewalk has always had the different levels starting with LE free with purchases of hardware. Then Home Studio I think is only $50. and on up to Producer. I have Studio which is the second from the top. This forum just has a name that served well for the last decade. When they released the new version , X, they should have change the name of this forum. You can upgrade to X3 Producer or Studio from 8.5. go to the top of the forum page and follow the links. to upgrades

I'm still confused. I'm thinking, it's looks like I had started with Sonar Producer, then upgraded to a cheaper X version in error.

X-line of SONAR started when SONAR 8.5 ended the "plain" SONAR line. If you have X2 Producer, as you say in post #4, then the upgrade is X3 Producer (X3e as the latest update). As the X-versions are the only ones that are available (+ Music Creator 6, obviously), it's hard to go wrong.

I still don't see your confusion. Sonar series started way back in the last decade and they worked the way through the numbers Sonar, Sonar 1, Sonar 2 Sonar 3 up to Sonar 8. The new decade brought X1, X2 and now X3. And Sonar is also released in 3 different levels and price points http://www.cakewalk.com/products/sonar/versions.aspx Sonar Sonar Studio Sonar Producer.

So, Sonar X3 is the top of the line product, right? And: X1 = Sonar 9 X2 = Sonar 10 X3 = Sonar 11 And the reason for the forum entitled " SONAR Producer and Studio" is for the old versions, the guys who don't upgrade, right?

"SONAR Producer and Studio" was the main Sonar forum before X1 existed. When X1 was first released they created a new forum for X1 (which subsequently became the X-series forum) and left the old one to be used for the older versions. They really should have renamed it to avoid confusion.

spacealf Version 8 is not Version X1 and I I think version 8 went up to version 8.5.3 with patches...
It's not that simple. Sonar 8.5 was released as a whole new version, completely separate from version 8. Insane really.

Yes. X3 Producer is the top of the line, SONAR X3 Essentials is the third in line. It can't be that difficult! Why do you make it so complicated? Although X -series is so much different from <8.5 that it's no use referring to them as SONAR 9 etc. If you see someone talking about version 9, he propably means Cakewalk Pro Audio from the 90's. SONAR 8 is never called Cakewalk Pro Audio 17, is it? You simply use the forum that supports the software you want to ask about.
