offical electronica contest. LAST DAY

UPDATE we will be using a system were all forum users can vote, as such please do not post your songs here, a seperate site will be set up where you can post your song, for now here are the oputlines to get you started

Judges:all of you that can be bothered to vote

Prize: No cash, just the warm glow inside from knowing you achieved something that was recognised by your peers

Song format: electronica thanks eric for supplying the link

one song per contestent

Chord formation: anything you like.

update format: 128 mp3 only

update 9th dec.2004 length: 6 mins max

updated 9th dec.2004 Software: It must have been recorded using any CAKEWALK product (sonar, P-5 etc), although 3rd party software maybe used in conjunction with these (for example reason rewired to sonar)

Entry does not affect your copyright.

Ways to win: Use your initiative. Think out the box, let people know that this genre allows for a lot of diversity, ingenuity and creativity.

Choose any way you want to do it. Use loops, use session drummer, whatever. All material (except samples) must be original. However, beats loop samples/pads riffs etc cannot be used as is, beat tempo cannot be the same, and cannot be used in the same context as original source. In other words, you can't take the breakdown from a plaid album and use it verbatim there must be some change in tempo pitch.

But vocal samples and individual pad hits samples etc (not riffs) are permitted as is

Content: It's inventiveness, technique and production that counts. Not just lumping together a series off the shelf samples.

Deadline: feb 28th 2005 (to allow time after the end of hip hop contest). please only post your entries on the site created for this contest( all other comments questions etc can be directed to the coffee house post

sorry for any confusion

kieran

Well...I'm not sure how we're going to go about a 'blind judging', but let me kick things off with my submission(I'm a judge, so my submission doesn't count...but please enjoy it anyways!).

Here's my entry; it's called "If I Could Only Give A Damn".

    http://www.basaap.com/rico/If%20I%20Could%20Only%20Give%20A%20Damn.mp3

Venesa Talor sings, played a few synth lines, I did the rest, all electronic. Here's a list of what I used:

    DR008 (as always!)
    SwarPlug for the Tablas
    V-Station
    Cyclone
    EVP73
    Super Quartet for the Piano
    Bunch of loops

    Sonitus Compressor/Phase/Delay
    Timeworks 4080L
    PSP Bass Enhancing Plugin
    Timeworks EQ
    Cakewalk FXChorus

    Mastering: Sonitus Multiband/Waves L2

It's a little long but let me know what you think!

why is it a rule that it must be recorded in Sonar?

this is a Cakewalk Song forum. even though it's obviously dominated by Sonar users that's more an historical artifact

I work in P-5 with electronica

now if I do the whole tune in P-5 and Rewire to Sonar for final rendering does that qualify? How would anybody ever tell

if I can enter, I enter 'seasonal Chill' on my soundclick site in the signature

thanks for pointing this out, we have changed the guideline now to allow tracks written using ANY cakewalk product. (see above for details).

so.... wheres the upload FTP site?

This is gonna rock! And where will the songs be stashed? Dont you think they should only be streamable? (copyrights etc).
And... do we have to wait til Feb 28 to begin uploading??? How will voting occur (on the honour system?).

    Details. More details.

P.S. Please post answer to this thread in P5 forum, Bubblefish... I dont check any other forums.

    hi there

sorry i can't confirm anything at the moment as i don't personally have access to the FTP site until after 28th feb.

however maybe i can post a list of all the entries before diving into anonimity to make sure everyone that wanted to is up there, watch this space i guess...

thanks for taking the time though.

    hey bubble!

Thats a fantastic idea! It'd be great to see a list of entries (perhaps even with the title of the songs before they become destined for anonymity!) ... who knows.

But it'd also give everyone some scope into how much work will be going in to the judging process!

    Thanks again Bubblefish!

I entered a song, but I don't know if I notified correctly. Am I supposed to email "campo@badloop.com" or I am supposed to leave a post here.

How will you identify which song belongs to which person? Just curious.

You don't need to email anyone. i suppose they will assemble a list of song names/artist and assign each one a number. Then they will rename all these songs to the coresponding number and only refer to the list once the votes are in to determine who has won.
Thats only my guess...that's how I'd do it. Maybe even get a person to number them who isnt judging to ensure that it is a random process.
