Slate FG-X rack. just got it today
Well, technically I bought it a few days ago but I had to wait for my new ilok (never had one before) to get here... I only have a little while playing with it on a project where I recorded 3 songs for a indie rock band and pseudo mastered it here as they didn't have the money for a real mastering house to do it. So I opened up my mastering project, pull my compressor and limiter off of 1 of the 3 songs leaving just an Eq and a stereo plug to widen things a bit. I then added the FG-X limiter rack. For some reason the presets are not there so I started from scratch (which is probably a good thing anyway). I ended up using the compressor on it for about .75 db of GR and then dialed up the limiter gain to add about 12db putting my RMS in the loud passages at about -8.5 db, peaks up to -.01 and played around this the settings while having the constant gain monitoring on. When I turn that feature off this thing sounds like my nice dynamic mix with the volume jacked. I can't hear ANY squashing, limiting, at all!? My snare and kick transients are all still there and it's so damn clean that I kinda missed some of the edge you get by pushing a limiter a little... Is that insane? I found myself like wow.... it's too clean! I have to find a way to F this up a little. When I compared that song to the other 2 (with my mastering prior to this plug) it sounds cleaner, more open and dynamic and just as loud to my ear at this point anyway. Crazy cool new tool to play with. I am sure I will update this as I get more experience with it. I'd love to hear your thoughts if you have spent some time with this one.

I think so, It doesn't do the smashed/squared off sounding kick transient thing but I would rather my kick sound like it sounded in the mix before an L2 (or most other limiters for that matter) crushed the piss out of it. I used to find myself knowing that my kick was gonna get clipped and sound more clicky than the mix so I would mix accordingly. And the snare would get half of the snap transient lopped off and sound like crap. I am glad I picked this one up.

I love the FG-X. It's pretty transparent. I want the VBC but I'm waiting for the price to come down. Digital Trigger is another one that never ceases to amaze me. Quality stuff indeed. Rocky

I've got the VBC, as well. It pretty much lives on the 2 bus.

I have them all too. FG-X lives on 99% of my projects. Well, probably 98%. FG-X is my fav Slate plug followed by Trigger, VTM is okay and I'm still not sure VCC does anything (despite what myolpal sez). I'm only just getting into VBC, so far I likes what I hears.

The FG-X was is one of my favorite plugins. I use it on all of my music and most everything I master. It is really great for the rock and metal I usually record. You can really bring up the levels without messing up the sound. If I want to add color to the music I use the tape emulator and/or compressor plugins.

Almost everything I do is rock & metal so.... and that is exactly what i needed it to do. I am not going for the squashed to the wall, no dynamics sound, I just wanted to get the levels up a bit at least to the point where the bands would accept the difference between the RMS of their recording and that of their favorite current record. With the L2 or the concrete limiter I would find myself losing the snare and destroying the kick and I was still 6-8 db from even being close to where I needed to get it.
