[Solved] Sonar and Roland OCTA-CAPTURE UA 1010
My Roland Octa-Capture audio interface is intermittently not being recognized by Sonar (both before and after the Sonar reinstall). I uninstalled the OC driver, then reinstalled it. Still no good. I've tried unplugging it and plugging it back in, turning it on and off, etc...mostly no good, although sometimes Sonar does see the device. The unit tells me it's online, but usually Sonar can't see it. Most of the time Windows sees it, as evidenced by the sound one hears when plugging in or turning on a USB device, but Sonar can't see it. Occasionally Sonar does recognize it and tells me it wants to add the device, but after I agree, Sonar generally still doesn't see the OC. I check in the Preferences/Audio Devices, but no devices are shown. I am running windows 8.1 64 bit. I have the lastest drivers installed. The crazy thing is it worked for a couple days when I first got it.! and sonar still see my line 6 kb37 with know problems! Go figure! I really need to get this figured out I have a 600.00 audio interface collecting dust. If anybody can help believe me I would be very thankful!

Roland have updated the firmware for the OctaCapture, it's at V1.5 now. If you haven't already updated, it may be worth it, to be more in line with the latter OS. Are you saying that sometimes Windows doesn't see the OC as well, this smacks of a driver/firmware issue if that is the case. I am running Win7 so maybe someone else can chime in and let you know if there are issues running OC with Windows8.1

Yes that's what I'm saying, however if you look in the systems drivers list it shows the OC driver working properly. I have already updated the driver. Actually I just bought the OC and did the update then. It worked fine for about a week. I thinking maybe the cakewalk update caused the problem it's all that was done sense installed. However I am going to wait a while before I roll back to see if something comes up that might help. I also submited a request to cakewalk to have a look at it. Thanks for your reply

Hi , I run a similar set up , I had the same issue when I moved to 8.1 , I thought I had installed the 1.5.2 driver , but when I checked I had messed up somewhere. So check the "about" on the driver . Might not be the problem but . only one device can be seen using ASIO , I have to remove my Line6 UXB when using the octacapture. Ric

I'm running driver 1.52. infact I un-installed and re-installed nothing, I just completed a bold step I restored my computer to an earier date. This still didn't fix the problem. I only have the OC plugged in, however I do have a Line 6 KB37 that works fine. I don't think it a driver problem between the two becasuse it's not on thus not loading the driver and I have had it longer. It really bothers me that I paid all this money for this audio interface and it doesn't work! I'm not to sure what to do next. Thanks for your reply

Is the OctaCapture connected to a USB3 port? If so, this can be a problem.

Robert: Have you tried a different USB cable? Maybe one that is shorter in length? I didn't see where anyone has suggested that. Once you get things sorted out, you will find that the Octa-Capture is a great value in an audio device. Paul

Hi: Did you read post #2 by rebel007? It sounds like your unit does need a firmware update. He asked did you update the firmware for your Octa-capture unit. The firmware is not the driver. You should go to the Octa-capture site and read to find out how to view and update the firmware version for the unit, then, if necessary, download the new firmware version and do the update for the firmware. EDIT: I'm reckoning the firmware update instructions are in a .pdf that's included with the OCTA-CAPTURE System Update Version 1.51 download. The below excerpt is taken from the Roland Octo-capture download section of the Roland site: This is the latest operating system version for the OCTA-CAPTURE. Please refer to the "OCTA-CAPTURE v1.51 Update Procedure and Added Functions” pdf document included in this download for the update procedure. IMPORTANT NOTICE: When you use the OCTA-CAPTURE Version 1.51, you MUST use the latest driver (Ver.1.5.0 or later). OCTA-CAPTURE USB Driver Windows v1.5.2This is the USB driver for Windows 8/8.1, 7, Vista and XP. IMPORTANT NOTICE:* Uninstall the old driver before you install the new driver. For uninstall procedures, please refer to the Readme.htm file that is created when you extract the download of the driver. * When you use this driver version, the OCTA-CAPTURE system program MUST be updated to the latest version (Ver.1.5.0 or later). When using with Windows 8: When the Windows SmartScreen is displayed upon installing the driver, please perform the following procedure: 1. Click [ More info ] 2. Click [ Run anyway ] * Skip Step 1 If your PC is not connected to the internet. Hope that helps EDIT 2: The firmware update instructions are included in a .pdf with the OCTA-CAPTURE System Update Version 1.51 download/ The .pdf is OCTA-CAPTURE_v1.5_Functions_e02_W.

Just so everyone knows I did everything stated which did not fix the problem. It turns out it was much simpler than that, is was a setting in OCTA_CAPTURE VS expand was on! I couldn't believe it! I must have turned it on by accident. I do want to thank everybody that tried to help me! I will be more careful in the future.
