Track Template - Cant Hear Midi
I had this problem for a while. If a have a midi track I hear it fine using whatever soft synth. If I then save the track as a template and then load that template I get the track with all the same settings, with the synth loaded and with the patch loaded also but no sound. If I do a 'replace Synth it still does not work. Original works fine. Its does seem to work sometimes with though with some midi track templates. Strange. any idea. Appreciated.

I am not near my DAW but want to check this next time I am. The first things to check are input/output routing and that the synth has the track echoed. Even replaced, another synth would have those same settings.

Templates do not save MIDI or audio clips only the plug-ins and settings.

Hi Thanks for the replies. Appreciated. Yes I realise track template does not carry the midi or audio clips. Also routing a is ok and checked and track is echoed. I've been using midi tracks a log time in Sonar so its some thing more obscure. In fact some synths work. Did a search. Could it be something to do with 32 ans 64 bit clashes ?. Any help appreciated.

If you think it could be, say, 32 bit/64 bit clash, why on earth are you not telling us anything about your system or what you are actually doing?? How do you expect anyone to be able to answer?

Perhaps this could be more accurately stated as "can't hear synth output". You keep mentioning a single MIDI track, and it appears that the synth is being loaded in the synth rack. I see no mention of a synth audio output track. Have you included that in your template? Without it, you will have no sound.

Hi RobertB, Thanks for your reply. Appreciated. Original track is created as a 'simple instrument track'. All I do is then save that track as a track template. I'm thinking that should work. Kalle, 'why on earth', 'how do you expect' ?? ... that attitude was what happend to Nokia wasn't it....

I long ago made a choice to never ever ever never ever use Simple Instrument Tracks, so I can not likely assist here, other than to suggest splitting it into a separate midi track and either a single stereo audio track, or a pair of mono audio tracks. I create and load track and project templates all the time, and don't have problems where synths don't properly sound after loading them into a project. Maybe there is some weird quirky thing with simple instrument tracks and templates. Again, perhaps you could test it out with separating the simple instrument track into an audio and midi track separately. Also, it is often quite difficult to help someone who may have a localized issue with their hardware or software, without knowing what sort of system is being use by the poster asking for assistance. That's why lots of us add our system specs to our forum profile signature, so that when we post on an issue folks have an immediate idea of what kind of system we are working with, and it speeds up the whole resolution process to have that info available. :) So, if you have a few minutes to test it out per above, please do and post back. OK, yes that should work. Although, I don't care much for SIT's either. Fwiw, Kalle does raise some good points(could have maybe phrased it better ). Your 32/64bit question seems odd. How is that coming into play? Tell us about your system, Sonar version, etc. Which synth(s) are you using? Which ones work/don't work? Is it consistent? Are you running Sonar as Admin? If not, this can cause all kinds of things not to work. ps:Bob, you're too fast
