Making BBQ....
BOY!! This has been one of those days...
First I heated up the grill to clean it. The grill is a Weber Genesis and will get hot in a hurry... real hot. I came in and was brushing up on what to do and forgot about the grill for a few minutes. I looked out and saw fire and black smoke coming out of the sides (...again). Yeah, I've done it before. I went out there and the temp was about 1,000 degrees. I turned off the gas and figured it would smother... not. I had to go back out and spray water in the catch tray under the heaters.
Then I thought, I should clean that out... it was HOT. I got some old potholders to use with my gloves and got it cleaned. Then I decided to change the drip pan. It was a little over half full and was HOT too. I got it set on the side with the burner for sauce. I set it there. It is like a miniature aluminum roasting pan, about the size of a market paperback book. One corner was stuck and I managed to spill a bit of wet yuck on the grill, which proceeded to run off down the handle of a hanging grilling tool and onto the deck (and into the gas eye part of the grill). I quickly got some paper towels and cleaned it as best I could. It had cooled considerably by then and I had a plastic bag into which I put the paper towels. Then I placed the drip pan with the rest of the juices or whatever it is, into the bag on the paper towels. It promptly tipped to the side and I found out that the yuk was still ht enough to melt the plastic bag. I hurried it off into the yard and put it in a hoe where a fence post was recently taken up... then I did my best to clean the spots where it dripped.... then there is this dammed headache I seem to have every afternoon! This BBQ had better be good. I'm smoking it with apple wood and mesquite chips... slow and low. Kosher salt, seasoned pepper, paprika, and raw sugar for a rub. Slow and low...
So, I did manage to get the pork seasoned and on the grill without dropping it. It is smoking now... I wish I was... but I don't smoke, except the occasional cigar. I think it may be time for a cigar and a little single malt.
Do you ever have days where things that normally go smoothly just go all off the track??
This happened to me once with an oil change, I never have a hitch. I just change the il and filter but... this one time I went through two new filters and 12 quarts of oil, it normally takes 4 quarts for this truck but everything that could go wrong that day.. went wrong, like twice. I've had no trouble with oil changes before or after.
Maybe I will change some more strings while I wait... for Craig at 4:00.
So... how is your day?
