A forum colab - Mr. Markno999 and I

Good stuff?

Mr. Mark No.999? The man is a freaking genius? on guitar? And the mix?

He's going through the whole re-install thing that I just went through?

We've been working on this one for many months? I hope (sincerely) that those who hate me don't hold this against Mark? Because he's good people... And very talented...

Please enjoy our classic rock colab?
===============

Mark is having some system problems? We're all familiar with those... He wanted me to wait? But I couldn't :-)

    When you do a cover of such a classic rock song.... man everybody knows that song....  you are putting yourself up against the best of the best with this cover.....  Eddie and the boys were world class....

    ...... I think you guys got fairly close to the feel and spirit of the original.....  maybe around 90% of the way there.

    the drums sound like they are not exactly a part of the mix. too dry. perhaps too much up front. Snare sounds too something..... not right.
    the mix has a certain stiff feel about it....(yeah there's a chance to turn a phrase in classic Robby fashion)
    Covering the vox.... I would not even attempt it, but you did a reasonably  good job on it.

    The playing is quite good. Nice work on the song. Just a few minor tweeks to get it to swing in that VH groove a bit better.....

    You did a pretty good job with this Robbie.  Much better than I could ever dream of doing.  Like Herb said, those are some pretty big shoes to fill between Eddies playing and Roth's vocals.  People forget what a big part of the vocal's Michael Anthony was.  Without those back up chorus vocal's, VH just doesn't sound like VH.

    Mark is going to have a go at the mix :-) He's very talented in that aspect. It was fun (but work!) to sing it for him. I'm glad to be moving on to something a bit more in my wheelhouse

    I'm not sure how this got duplicated? Sorry about that. Herb, thanks very much, high praise coming from you sir. We thank you.

    Mike, thanks for your comments, I agree the BGV were a strong component of their sound. I didn't edit them, I did comp of course, but no editing  Thanks again.

    I re-did the vox, using the SPL Trans plug (which I owned, but re-installed after the great crash of 14...) I smashed it a little harder too...

    I think it's better? :-)

    But either way, it rocks pretty hard? It's at the top;

    One of my favs!
    Listening on the iPad, the BGV seem to be way too low in the mix. Great instrumental performances...nice lead vocal performance, although not as close to Roth as the previous VH cover.

    Not Bad at all. Sounds like a lot of the instrumentation is leaning to the left side and so may need to be eq'd out a bit better. Your vocals are good Robbie but could use a bit more chorus or reverb added, but not to much, just enough to carry them out a bit further. Instrumentally sounds good except for a couple of the bass licks didn't seem to happen just right, but that could be just me. All and all, nicely done.

    Respectable!  Who does Roth?  Robbie does.  Both of you put together a nice cover of a great tune.
