Strange No Sound Bug
Hey Everyone-- I'm guessing this is just a bug that is unique to my setup, but I thought I'd check here to make sure. I resized my Tracks in track view and boom-- no sound. I see the meters registering, but no sound output. I load another project in X2 and there is sound. I go back to the original project--still no sound. I'll figure it out, but wondered if anyone ever had this happen before?

I'm guessing there'e a logical explanation like you inadvertently soloed something offscreen that's silent at the current playback position. What command/gesture did you use to resize the tracks?

Resizing the track/s has never had any impact on playback of a project. Not on my system at least.

Yea, i would lean towards the thinking that its not a bug and its a setting in the signal chain that has been changed.

What I did was manually drag a track down to make it larger...I agree it doesn't make sense, but that's all it did. I forgot to mention that the output drop downs in console and track view were ineffective. Just--didn't respond at all. The master indicator for M and S are not lit--so I don't think anything is muted or soloed. Again, I do see the meters responding. Strange...

Can you see the Main outputs? Are the meters working there? Be sure that you did not change the outputs on your tracks.

when you dragged the track down, did you have the mute tool selected by mistake?

1st I did, and then I didn't. My big concern now is that the out drop down menu isn't working.

I mentioned the yellow mute light is not on for global settings.

I know you said other projects are working, but... have you tried rebooting yet? Or maybe just opening the project in Safe Mode? What was the last thing you added to the project? If you add a new track/bus can you set the output?

OK, this is totally weird, but here is what I found. The tracks' outputs were going to the correct busses, and both the tracks and the busses had meters lighting. The master bus was not lighting, so I started looking for why. I noticed that all of my buss' outputs had changed to the wrong sound card channels. So, just change them back, right? Wrong. When I clicked on the outputs both in console and track view, the fly-out menu didn't do anything. It was as if I was clicking on a picture--no response. I closed the project, but left X2 open. Then I opened the other project that I had sound from and double-checked the I/Os and played the track. Then I closed that project (leaving X2 open) and opened the project with the issues. Now, the outputs respond and I was able to select the correct sound card channels to route to the master bus. I don't think I've ever dove for the save keys as fast in my life. So it works, but what the heck? Maybe I did something that changed my buss' outputs, but why couldn't I change them back initially? If it affected my other project, I would lean toward my sound card not being compatible with my new DAW--but the other track played. Still, it might be a compatibility thing. It was as if there was only one output for X2 to choose, so the menu didn't open. I checked my audio settings in X2 and it was all good. Really weird. Thanks everyone for the input (pardon the pun).

Thats what I was suspecting happened. Thats why i suggested you look at your main outs.

I have had this happen to me before on a couple of occasions. It would seem to do it when you move something around graphically such as resizing a track or opening a plug in window while audio is playing. I found that if you just do a save as and change the name (I added a number after the project name)and then close the project and reopen it, all was good. I am using onboard Intel video.

I can't be sure, but I think the audio was playing while I resized the tracks. The routing issue I can deal with--very minor. But not being able to change it because the buttons don't respond really concerns me.

I never noticed if it had changed the output channel when it happened but I would get the same behavior with the meters showing output on tracks and master bus,but nothing on main output meters. As I said I just saved and reopened the project and all was normal. I have no clue why it does this and actually have not had it happen lately.
