Icon exe problem...grrr
I hope there is a way to accomplish this...and for the record...I am totally pissed at myself for not following one of my basic computer rules..."if it's working...don't mess with it..." ..with that said. I recently purchased MC6 Touch. It is going to be used on a laptop with Windows 8 (a very near future purchase) for playing live. On my Windows 7 PC I use Sonar X2 Producer...Soooo. I got curious to look at MC6 so I installed it...and voila!!! all my little gray X2 icons have changed to the blue circle icons with the guitar in it (the MC6 Icons). This wouldn't bother me so much but when I click on any of the file exe's it opens up MC6...I need my file exe's to open Sonar first not MC6. My questions are this - 1. How can I keep both pieces of software on this comp yet have my SX2 be the main program...not MC6? I can open X2 files only if I do it from inside X2. (save as doesn't help either) This actually sucks. I only wanted to see MC6 and now my comp thinks it's my main program...How can I reverse this? I tried deleting MC6 and then all that was left were empty white circles and none of them would open with the existing X2 on my machine...so I put MC6 back on my machine so at least I can open X2 and have access to my files... Someone has to know where in Windows 7 or in the Sonar/MC6 preferences I can go to point things in the right direction. Help me get my X2 back...MC6 has taken me hostage...not that there's anything wrong with that...lol Thanks Jason216 post#20...5 more lol

Right-click on a project file, open Properties, in the General tab click the change button next to the "Opens with:" and if SONAR is shown select it or use the browse option to find it. FYI, when installing either program there is a screen near the end of the installation process to associate extensions with the application.

alternately, you could edit the registry to associate your cwp and cwb files with sonar and not MC and alternately, alternately you could reinstall sonar after you've installed MC to assocate the files with sonar.

Re-install Sonar after un-installing it after installing MC after un-installing that or reversing the order in which the programs were installed like how it happened as it is, is what I think Beagle meant. But in older versions of the software you could right click on the track icon and choose what icon you wanted there since there was different ones, ones for percussions, drums sets, guitars, synthesizers, pianos, many different ones to pick one for the track icon.

yeah, the reason your files are associated with MC instead of sonar is because you installed MC last and during the installation, you allowed the check boxes to say that the cwp & cwb files will now be associated with MC. so the 2nd alternate is to uninstall sonar then resinstall it and then the files will once again be assocated with sonar instead of mc.

but...if the party of the first part is related to the party of the second part which lets the third party interact with the party of the first part, but not the party of the second part unless the party of the third part is also connected to the party of the first part, and the party of the second part...just sayin' lol

Only one program can be related.

Thanks guys...and Beagle...I was just being a smart a** relating to Spacealf's post... Spacealf...Re-install Sonar after un-installing it after installing MC after un-installing that or reversing the order in which the programs were installed like how it happened as it is, is what I think Beagle meant... What I wrote meant nothing... Anyway this problem is solved and I appreciate all the help... Thanks, Jason216
