Can't install X3 patch.

Hey guys, I'm trying to update my retail version of X3 Producer to the latest patch, X3e, but when I run the patching application it says the required version of Sonar cannot be found.

My rig runs multiple hard drives, and the OS is spun off of a small solid-state hard drive, whereas my Sonar installation files, sound libraries, etc. etc. are all located on a RAID 0 drive that is separate from the OS. Is this why the patcher can't find Sonar? (i.e. Windows is on Drive C, and Sonar is on Drive F)

If that's the case, what can I do about it? I've tried extracting the patcher to multiple locations on both drives, but it's unable to do a thing. I've also tried different versions/releases of the patcher (X3b, X3c, etc.) to no avail.

I've been poking around the forums for a solution, and I haven't found anything. Any help would be appreciated.

The patch is specific to the X3 version you own. Please be sure to have the correct patch for the version you have installed. (X3, Studio, Producer).

You may also get that error if trying to patch a 64-bit version with the 32-bit patch chosen in the installer and vice versa (but not sure on this one).

Also, please be sure to install the patch explicitly as administrator.

And I think this can't be said enough - if you start moving stuff around your drives after the installation - you may hose updates.  Pretty sure some people like to get rid of files in their "My Documents" folder (for example) - but many apps use that as a standard Windows convention. Some people like to clean their registries a little too often as well . . . . .
Excuse me if this doesn't apply to you!

I would just re install the original version properly to the C drive.. it only takes up a few Gigs of space so why bother putting it elsewhere.

Thanks for the quick replies, guys.

@mettelus: I've been downloading the Producer updates, since that's the version I use. I was unaware there were 32-bit/64-bit specific patches? Also, been running as Admin, yes, that was the first thing I tried. :)

@Stone House Studios: For most intents and purposes this is a fresh install. I don't have that many hours logged onto this rig yet, and I haven't messed with any of the standard Microsoft settings. No offense taken.

@Cactus Music: I'd like to consider that a 'last resort' ... after all, patching Sonar isn't imperative, but I like to keep up to date, especially since many of these patches are released to improve stability.

I have not tried this myself (I use default locations for everything but samples) but you could try creating a junction on the C drive to the actual location. Assuming the physical location is "F:\Program Files\Cakewalk" and maintained the same directory structure as the default installation, the cmd for 64bit SONAR would be:
    mklink /j "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk" "F:\Program Files\Cakewalk"
