Anyone have 32-bit and 64-bit installed?

I'm using 32-bit for my old projects, notably my near-finished record. What happens with track templates, custom plugin menus, and key-bindings customizations? Do they persist over or are they discreet for each version?

    I don't have 32bit versions installed.

Track templates and plug-in layouts are stored in locations specified by Preferences > File > Folder Locations. Keyboard shortcuts are stored in the registry by Cakewalk Product, 32bit and 64bit have completely different registry locations.

They are separate programs altogether. I have both installed and there is virtually no difference other than the memory limitations of 32 bit. The latency issues seem to be better in 64 bit. At this point I have replaced just about every vsti with a 64 bit version so the only reason I even fire up the 32 bit is to load older projects without having to port over the plugins in 64. I have to say I haven't opened the 32 bit version in months. That is correct about them being separate registry locations.

I think one of the important things he's asking is will things like keybindings of the 32bit version be transferred over to a 64bit version when migrating settings.

For instance: If I have SONAR X1 64bit installed and then install SONAR X3 64bit, when I start up SONAR X3 64bit, SONAR asks if I want to migrate my settings from the SONAR X1 installation. So, the question is will SONAR migrate settings like keybindings if I have a SONAR 32bit version installed and then install the SONAR 64bit version? This is a really good question. What are the particular settings that are migrated over to the new installation of a SONAR version? Are "...track templates, custom plugin menus, and key-bindings customizations..." migrated over to the new SONAR installation?

And if that is not what the OP is asking, it's a question I'm asking. I have answered yes to this migration question, but I don't know what all is really migrated over to the new SONAR installation. Does anyone know how this works?

Sorry ...wicked, I don't mean to hijack your thread.

Add my experience to Sidroe's. Having both installed keeps options open for older projects - or - if you have a need for some of cake's outstanding 32bit 'only' plugs.

    Hi all:

I just searched the SONAR X3 Help for "Migrating preferences" and below is what it says:

    Migrating preferences

If you have a previous version of Cakewalk installed, SONAR will detect it and give you the option of
migrating certain preferences from a single earlier version. When you choose to migrate preferences, SONAR migrates the following settings from an earlier Cakewalk version.

-Global Options Global settings in the Preferences dialog box: Open by selecting Edit >Preferences.

-Key Bindings: Your customized key bindings for controlling SONAR using your MIDI
    keyboard or computer keyboard.

-Instrument Definitions Files used to control specific MIDI instruments.
Audio data directory (Wave Data folder) and Picture Cache directory
locations. SONAR uses the Data directory and Picture Cache directories from the
previous Cakewalk version for storing project wave files and their
    waveform image files.

Even if the keyboard shortcuts did not migrate, there would be no issue with export/import especially on the same release (ex. 32bit X3 and 64bit X3). Export/import between different releases (ex. X2 and X3) may be an issue because the functions available on different releases may not be the same.
