Mr.Anderton....more emulations,please
Hello everyone, I wanted to ask for help from Mr.Anderton,to suggest to continue the develop of emulations of popular old devices. Now ,for me, my system with Sonar X3 is so reliable that I would just have more choice in the plug ins. These are some brands that I'd like to see in ProChannel: Summit Audio, Tubetech, Aphex,Manley and Millennia for masterbuss, DBX, Pultec, API, Neve, Empirical Labs, Maag ........ Mr.Anderton and Cake team, can you speed up this part of the Sonar X ? All my best Roberto
Intel i7 3600,Asus Z170P,16 GIG Corsair ram,Focusrite Saffire Pro 26 i\o,Nektar Impact LX 49,Focusrite Liquid Mix,Monitors ADAM-K&H,Sonar Platinum Windows 10 SP1 Producer....more stuff in SStudio, Rome ,Italy.

I've been asking for a Pultec emulation for a long time.
I have found the Nomad Pultec EQ included in X3 to be quite good. It's very easy to put it in an FX Chain and assign the controls to the FX Chain's knobs and switches. Really nice, handy Pulteq EQ module for ProChannel.
Same goes for the Nomad Fairchild compressor.

That's not my decision, but I can give some "outside-looking-in" comments. If you're talking about including them with the program, licensing intellectual property (IP) from companies costs money. This would increase Sonar's price - in some cases dramatically depending on how much a company values its IP. This would particularly affect upgrade pricing, as these plug-ins would likely appear first in upgrades. The point of plug-ins is that users can choose what they want to use for particular applications; if Sonar upgrades cost another couple hundred dollars to include specific plug-ins, and people didn't want those plug-ins possibly because they'd already paid significant money for licensed plug-ins from companies like Waves and Universal Audio, I think those customers would not happy. The Nomad plug-ins aim for a vintage character, and I assume they were included to add that element to Sonar. If Cakewalk was to develop its own line of plug-ins that parallel what's already available and make them optional-at-extra cost, that would take away development time from the core program itself and creating new devices like Z3TA+ that don't have equivalents from other companies. That said, it's clear that Cakewalk does choose to do plug-ins that cover the same territory as classic hardware devices - like the Console Emulator, Tape Emulator, and CA2A. I'm confident that the Bakers will make the correct decisions as to which plug-ins are worth pursuing, and which ones aren't.

Outsourcing the programming is also an option, I understood the tape sim was (partly?) done by Softube. But I agree, we will usually end up mixing and matching from various 3rd party vendors anyway. I'm glad there is a relatively well rounded collection included but I would rather not pay a lot more for extra plugs that I may not use or will soon replace anyway.

Thanks for replay ,i agree with your considerations, but i would pay an extra cost for an old pearl device (Tubetech,Summit Audio....)emulations with a perfect integration with Sonar X Pro Channel and vst3. But this is me.....

I mean no offense but how about letting Cakewalk Developers decide what plugins to include. I think they've already done a great job with this. Mr. Anderton brings up a good point about Sonar increasing in price by licensing IP from other vendors/companies. After all there were some folks that felt the $150 upgrade price was a bit steep even with all the extras included. I felt $150 was fair considering what we got but if it had been even a little more I don't think I would've upgraded...

And to my point...part of that $150 was Melodyne, Addictive Drums, and Nomad. However, when you consider how much the extras in Sonar would cost if you didn't buy them as part of a Sonar upgrade, then the Sonar pricing looks really attractive. The other nice thing about Sonar's 3rd-party plug-in choices is they don't always include the same extras in different version upgrades. Over time, you can build up a collection of plug-ins if you keep your old installation discs around. R-Mix and V-Vocal, the Lexicon Pantheon, etc. come to mind.

My $.02 is that although there were incredible pieces of gear in the past, which to some degree don't seem to be improved on in *some sense* with new stuff... I'd prefer developers like Cake developing new stuff. There already is a Manley, Distressor, etc.. Rather than making cheaper replications of them, it'd be great to see developers forge ahead. I can guess that something like the Concrete Limiter might start to be in that catagory, since it isn't emulating anything to my knowledge. Certainly items like Z3ta and Rapture are, although their separate modules aren't necessarily revolutionary. If you must have a LA2A, you can easily buy one today, if the wallet is capable. Same if you must have tape emulations. Studer machines are all over the place at incredible values compared to their new prices. However, stuff like Omnisphere blow me away and there was nothing like that 50 years ago. That product illustrates my point. Same with X3. I DO think it's good that Cake has supplied the plugs that they have and not just a "bare bones" DAW. This way, you can get off and running very easily. Then pick what you really need.

At this point, I would like the bakers to work on the core program, and get out of the plugin business. They can (and have done) an excellent job working with third parties to make modules available for the Prochannel. Just concentrate on the core program. Fixing what needs fixing. And coming up with new, innovative, and exciting ways to work with audio!!
