Do people really...

Um, the people who buy "Daisy Rock" stuff want their picks (with cute little turtles on them!) and guitars and straps and shoes and ponies and unicorns to be color coordinated. 
 
 
 
And I've also heard it said that some peoples are fond of certain colored guitars, too.

Geeze, my picks are only 0.58mm and I was thinking of going down to 0.48mm because 0.38mm picks are flaky to say the least. Ah those are Dunlops also.
My 0.58mm picks are a kind of redish-pink, well more red than pink, whatever one calls that color. Not purple but the other one - oh, darn I can not think of it now, probaby will later.

 

I used to play .60 mm and .73 mm nylon - back then, I used to hold it by the narrower end. A few years back I decided that I had been stuck at the same playing level for one decade too many. I happened to find the first Les Paul I dug, so I switch from strat to LP, and went on to somewhat re-learn everything - my picking hand position, the way I hold my pick, my greeting hand position, and all.
 
I then progressed from 73mm (yellow) to 88mm (green). But there are a few things I'm trying to grasp and most players I've seen doing that stuff use heavy picks, so I thought it was worth a try. 
 
Otherwise, I'd be happy to go back to my .88 mm.
 
Unless I intend to play something from one of Syd Barrett's solo record - then those flaky .38 are the ticket. ;)

I pretty much follow a similar pattern as Drewfx. I like the picks with more grip or nylon tends to stick with me better, as well. Lighter for the acoustic guitar and nylons for a softer touch. Heavier for electric. There are two shades of purple Gators that I use a lot on electrics. Bass is the 2.0 black Gator.

Do people choose picks by color? I know I do. Just try to find a black pick on a darkened stage.
 
It's probably because I am not a guitarist, and I prefer light-gauge plectra, but my picks tend to go airborne. So I buy white picks exclusively so I can more easily pick them up from the floor.

Anyone like graphite picks?

I used to use transparent ones. 

I've used those big chunky Stubbys for 20 years, but it always bothered me how quickly I wear down the tip. Recently discovered you can buy NYLON Stubbys which last a lot longer! Also, they make less of a "plink" sound. So that's my pick brand sorted for the next 20 years at least. Can't use anything else now, regular picks just seem so inferior.

My choice for years was the Fender Medium in White.

My reasoning: the Fender medium picks had just the right amount of flex and stiffness for my playing style AND.... most importantly, the WHITE pick was easy to see if I dropped it on the dark stage.  Have you ever dropped and tried to find one of those tortoise colored ones? It's like trying to spot one of those Duck Commander boys in the Louisiana swamp on the first day of duck season.
 
Since those things last forever unless you happen to get them near a flame (at which point they will nearly explode) I still have several from over 30 years ago.... as long as I didn't do a string slide with them, where they have a notch in them, I still use them to this day......some of them are slightly more "round" than pick shaped from use. But I can't seem to part with them.   I finally did break out a brand new pick yesterday. It's brown, but then again, I'm not exactly on a dark stage these days so it's all good.

Just curious..do picks wear out? If they do I'm not doing a very good job of wearing mine. I've had the same picks for a few years now. On acoustic I don't use picks though.

I wonder if Cakewalk came out with picks if they would be offered as a Baker's gross (169)?
