help me out with a synth sound? Solved!

Howdy.  I've recorded a cover of a cool song (linked below), but I am synth illiterate.  For posterity, I want to get the weird droning synth that comes in during the intro (and I think goes on for most of the choruses).  Anyone want to help me out on how I might make that sound?  I really know nothing about constructing synth sounds, and I haven't found a preset that is that close.  I have the synths that come with X3 and the Arturia Moog.

Anyway, here is the song.  The synth is clear at the very end of the song too. Thanks!

Edit:  The winner is:  everyone!  It is definitely a guitar with a pegged delay, but I had to add some synth-y thing to get it a bit closer.  ended up going with a retro sonic analog delay and a dim pro sound. it isn't exact, but good enough....Here it is if you want to hear (rough mix with scratch vox still--and no solo)

It could even be a guitar , a note played though a delay with the feeback loop up hi.
Definatly a warble of some sort at say 16th notes. but what you must realize is it's not going to be in any pre set.
Why don't you ask the band? You'll be suprised at how many will respond to these questions. These day's it's mandatory to keep in touch with your fan base.

I figured it could be a guitar, given the band.  I'll  mess with that idea a bit.  Certainly easier for me to mess with that a bunch on knobs and switches on a synth!

Sounds like a Theremin. Could be synthesized, or the real thing. They've made something or a comeback in the last couple decades.  It might even be a sample from some old sci-fi movie soundtrack.

Basically you need to apply an LFO-modulated filter (a.k.a. "wah") to something like a slightly distorted sine wave or a saw with the high frequencies filtered out. Theremins produce a fairly pure tone for the most part.

The good news its that it's really nice and clear in the left channel during the intro. You could almost sample that and make your own instrument but there's some guitar in it.

I would start w/ a sine wave for the oscillator and lfo modulate the filter w/ a ramp wave.  Find a setting that almost gets there and add in a little of the same lfo to the pitch to exaggerate the effect.  And you may need a dirtier oscillator.  Just play w/ those three things and you can get close - and maybe better.

^^^^

Simple sine wave + LFO mapped to pitch*.

To my ears, sounds more like the filter cutoff's been enveloped over time, not LFO-modulated, though I am listening on a MacBook's speakers. :P

Check out my music! :]

And don't forget a compressed file.  I can't tell if it is pitch or filter LFO, and if any real-time control is going on.  It does sound to me like the LFO is a forward sawtooth, but you don't really know until you start digging in.

Also, the turn table/keyboard player in the band has been playing a theremin in their live sets, so I may start there.  Of course he also has a moog and another hybrid custom keyboard and a huge stack of vinyl full of samples too...

My first guess was a delay on a guitar.

No synth work; I heard nothing but guitars in that song. The wobble tone at the end was distortion, feedback and delay. That's a similar sound in the old Radiohead song "Karma Police," though they really distorted it and enhanced the effect.
