Cannot uninstall UA-25 EX drivers

In an attempt to get the unit to function in 24/96 mode, I have uninstalled the drivers and attempted to reinstall, but the reinstall cannot proceed, popping up a message that the uninstall needs to be completed.  I have the latest drivers for Win7 and tried to uninstall from Control Panel as per the instructions and also from the setup folder, to no avail.  I think perhaps something is still in the registry.  Can anyone help?

Make sure you turn the computer off and unplug the device. Then start the computer without the device connected and try uninstalling it.

If that doesn't work then run the clean all utility from Roland.  You will need to re-install any drivers for any other Roland / Edirol / Cakewalk devices after using this.

I've had a look round my egistry but couldn't find the keys you'd have to delete.  Hopefully that clean-all will work.

Remember that at 96khz you can record or playback but not both (Full Duplex) at the same time.

Get the Clean All utility from here...

Thanks very much, Gilly.  Neither Win7 or even Vista supported by this app.  This I have found to be typical of computer music devices over the years.   The user is constantly stuck between Windows versions and driver iterations.  I will call Roland tomorrow and see if anyone can help.

It should work.  I had to use it a couple of months ago and i'm running Win 7 32 bit.  If you have problems with it then right click on the cleanall file and choose the Windows XP SP 3 compatability.  Worth a shot.

The uninstaller doesn't work under Win7, nor does Roland's clean all under any emulation.  I have talked to Roland tech support about it, and they are thoroughly stumped.  As a user who goes back to the Turtle Beach/ CWPA 1.0 days, it has ever been thus.  If you have the latest Windows, the sound card drivers aren't ready for you.  In other words, unless I'm running XP, I'm SOL.  Caveat emptor.
In order to get back running anything at all, I had to do a complete system restore predating the UA 25 EX driver install, which of course necessitated a complete reinstall of Sonar.  This is unacceptable, but it seems to be standard procedure in the computer music biz.  Nuts!

    Hi Reilly,

I'm sorry to hear you're having problems uninstalling the drivers. Can you confirm if your UA-25 EX is an Edirol or a Cakewalk?

    Cheers,

    I have the same problem!

I'm using UA-25 EX - Cakewalk by Roland.
I have uninstalled the drivers and attempted to reinstall.

When I try to install UA-25 EX Driver Ver. 1.0.0 i get the following message:

    A problem may have occurred.

To install the driver, please execute Uninstal.exe (located in the some folder as Setup.exe) and then execute Setup.exe once again.

I've done this 4 times now and I get the same results. It feels like Im in a evil loop of some kind!

Does anyone have a fix for this? I have no sound!

Is your UA-25 EX plugged in or unplugged when you try to install it?

I forgot to mention that, sorry.
Yes I have disconnected the USB kable. Only on the UA-25 EX though.

I don't think it will make any difference but im gonna remove the USB cable from the PC also and check when i get home. Thanks for showing interest Chappel! Much appreciated.

I only wish I could be more help. This message seems to imply that the driver is still installed:
"To install the driver, please execute Uninstal.exe (located in the some folder as Setup.exe) and then execute Setup.exe once again."

Try booting up with the device plugged in. Try to uninstall it while it is still plugged in. You may be asked to unplug it and reboot to complete the installation. Then try to install it before plugging it in. You should be asked to plug it in to complete the installation process.

I've tried the order you recommended and still, no go.

If I switch advanced driver OFF and plug in the USB cable, windows detects the device and installs drivers automatically.
I get sound this way but that's it, can't change settings etc.
I can't even select the soundcard in Cubase 5 or Reason.

I use windows 7 64 bit by the way.

This is so typical, I have had so much bad experience with T.C Electronics and thought Cakewalk would save me since they have 64 bit drivers but........

Do you have any other ideas? Maybe a driver cleaner program perhaps?

I'm all out of ideas, that's for sure. Are you sure you have the right drivers? I can't get past the fact that this problem sounds like a driver error. Here are the latest Windows 7 64 bit drivers for the UA-25 EX.
UA-25 EX Windows 7 64 bit drivers found on the UA-25 drivers page . Check the "I AGREE AND WISH TO PROCEED WITH DOWNLOAD" box and click Download to see all the drivers.

I use a program (free version) called Revo Uninstaller that I like a lot. It uninstalls and deletes all associated registry entries.

I am having the exact same issue with the UA-1G.  Did anyone fix this without a system restore?

Yes I agree to that this is a problem due to that something is there in the registry that is creating all this troubles. You should clear from the registry first,

    Hey!

I'm not sure if you still have the problem but I just got mine working and I had the same problem.. I could use the edirol in normal mode but the advanced mode (needed for midi) on my computer didn't recognize the edirol...(Installing drivers lead to the same naver ending cycle) After a long battle...  I ran the uninstall file once more. Then I connected my Edirol UA-25 with the advanced mode on (Installing driver failed). Then I went to the "update device drivers" from the control panel. I clicked the "update driver" from the edirol driver and I chose the option to use a driver from my computer. And for the location I chose the new driver which I had downloaded from the site. Hope this helps someone with the same issues. I'm just glad I can now record midi..

    Have a nice summer everyone!

(I have Edirol UA-25 and Win 7 professional)
