[Answered] Troubles with Addictive drums and take lanes

Hi,
2 questions that i can't seem to figure out.
I'm using Sonar x3 and i want to get more serious with the mixing so i want to start using seperate tracks for all the drumkit parts.
I did some reading and it seems easy enough when i follow this:

EDIT: link doesn't go through.
blog.cakewalk.  com sonar-quicktip-setting-up-your-addictive-drums/

I follow it step by step. It created a bunch of tracks but then nothing happens. It doesn't explain how i actually get all the drumkit parts in each channel. I mean when i first load Addictive Drums it's empty. No preset. Then i can load a specific kit in Addictive Drums but it doesn't move it to the empty tracks sonar created. What am i missing here?

Also it take lanes not what i think it is?
What exactly do i use if i want to record let's say 5 guitar tracks all using Guitar Rig 5. Can't i just create lanes and it will use the same settings? I find it hard to believe that i need to load Guitar Rig in a new track every single time. That would slow things down a lot in the end. Same with keyboards. What if i want to add 5 piano tracks?

Thanks!!

To get individual channel outputs from Addictive drums click the down-arrow button above the “Out” indicator at the bottom of a channel strip to route it to a dedicated output, and not to AD’s Master.

Yes, take lanes can be used to layer parts using the same synth and/or Audio FX. You just need to set the record mode to Sound on Sound so that previous takes aren't automatically muted for Comping. Click and hold the Record button momentarily to get the options.

    Thanks for the reply.
The down arrow thing i tried that before but it seems to only partly work. It's not like it routes it to a seperate channel for each piece of the kit. It seems to share several channels randomly. Not 1 on 1.

And the sound on sound part is what i'm looking for i think. Thanks for that!

The individual AD tracks are not random, page 15 of the "Addictive Drums Manual.pdf" details the track assignments. Some are mono, some a stereo, so this needs to be manually setup in SONAR.

Also, don't forget there are 4 other channels in the AD mixer that capture the entire kit (on the right hand side.)  If you are routing those to separate tracks and you mute, say the kick, you will still hear the kick in those channels.

You will need to use at least the overheads to get the cymbals and pad percussion sounds, because they are not "mic'd" separately in AD.

I tend not to send the master to a separate set of tracks as I'd rather route all the sonar tracks to a bus.
