Waves CLSID issue

Has anyone had issues with X3 thinking there are 2 versions of Waves plug-ins installed and prompting to pick which version when loading a project?

I didn't have this issue in 8.5, but now if I create a project in X3e with V8 Waves plug-ins and reopen the project later, Sonar prompts to pick one of two versions of the plug-in.  Both options have the exact same CLSID and install directory though so I don't know why Sonar thinks there are two versions.  I even uninstalled, reinstalled and rescanned to no avail.

I actually see the dup entries in my registry so gonna try and manually remove.

UPDATE: That seemed to do the trick.  Not sure how the dup entries got in there, and why they didn't show up as dups in plug-in manager.

Take the following with a grain of salt, I'm no expert on this topic but here's what seems to be happening.

WAVES has VST3 and VST2 versions. In Sonar's Preferences > File > VST Settings, you have the option to hide related VST2 plugins and/or replace VST2 plug-ins when opening projects. I have them both checked and Sonar always seems to pick the VST3 ones in new projects. However in older projects, it seems Sonar asks if you want to replace a plug-in. I assume it's doing that to confirm you want the VST3 version.

Perhaps someone can give a definitive answer on this...

Thanks. Yeah, I actually thought it could be related to the VST3 like you say.  However, the ones I'm having an issue with are V8 and VST2 only (I don't have the VST3 versions installed).  Could still be related I suppose.

So far the registry clean up seemed to fix it, but we'll see....

This may be why Cakewalk recommended a reset and rescan on upgrade http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/kb/reader.aspx/2007013315 The reset clears the VST inventory in the registry.

Ahh, good call.  Totally missed that.  Yeah, I bet resetting via the Manager would probably have accomplished the same result.
