Audio Snap Not Working X2a

I'm trying to set the midi tempo to an audio clip. But when I try #3 below I get an "Invalid measure and/or beat" notice telling me to remove some tempos that are out of range. But there is only one tempo. So what am I supposed to do?

From Online Help:

To sync the project tempo to an audio clip
1. Select the audio clip(s) that has the desired tempo map.
2. Press A to open the AudioSnap palette.
3. Click the Set Project Tempo From Clip button on the AudioSnap palette.

The clip tempo map is copied to the project tempo map so the tempo maps are identical.
(No it's not. Instead I get the above error message)

The Set Project Tempo From Clip drop-down list lets you specify at which resolution the clip’s tempo map should be copied to the project tempo. The options are as follows:
Beats
Measures (default)
Clip
(All 3 render the error message)

I haven't used AS in a while, but what happens if (on a copy of the clip) you use the Trim command to crop it to the required region and then try AS?   I recall something about pickup notes or similar sometimes affecting the AS detection algorithms.

Define  "required region". The entire clip IS the region.

BTW, the clip is a 7 minute song wave file.

I scrapped the project and started a new one which helped a little bit. AS works but I cannot get it to calculate the audio beasts correctly. It tries but it is off. The beats are easy enough to decipher and I could do it manually but that would defeat the purpose of AS, so I'll probably just scrap it altogether.

    Thanks!

I have absolutely no idea how on Earth AudioSnap is supposed to work. It seems like an unwieldly mess of excessive options.

Tempo mapping and remapping is implemented so beautifully and concisely in Ableton Live that I almost can't believe how uselessly overkill Cakewalk's implementation via AudioSnap is.

But hey, I guess every DAW has its strengths and weaknesses, eh?

    Check out my music! :]

Hi, soens. It's been a while so I'm not sure if this is exactly the issue you are having but it sure sounds like it. Google the forum for a thread by FastBikerBoy (Karl) about Audiosnap. He did a couple vids last year about this issue. You have to fiddle with the beats at the start of the timeline before it will accept certain beat/tempo setups. It's kind of finicky and a PITA but it works.

Edit: See post #5. I found the vids.

Google: Cakewalk Forums + FastBikerBoy + Audiosnap + vids or videos.

Or you could just check his youtube page. They were there last time I checked.

After watching the Anderton Berklee vid I noticed the AS timeline stuff looked different in X3. I'm not certain and I haven't tried it yet (too busy with other crap) nor have I seen any mention of a feature update in that area but it did look a heck of a lot sleeker than I remember. I also mentioned to Bill a while back about Audiosnap 3.0 because it really could use some improvements. He seemed to like the idea and said maybe they'd look into it. One can only hope.

    Good luck.

Oh good... I had Karl's youtube page bookmarked. He's got some helpful stuff up there and it looks like he's added some new vids. I personally love his style.

And here are the two vids I was referring to. The first one is an older vid that he made and then one of the baker's gave him some tips to make it easier so he made the second vid based on that. Best to watch both though because the first contains info the second one doesn't.

Hope that helps. If not, my apologies. Cheers.

Thanks Beep, I'll look into those. I kind of forgot about FBB's videos. Haven't seen much of him lately on the forums.

NP. Since he's gone pro with the vids I'm betting he's spending a lot of time working on that. His paid stuff is extremely thorough and linear so I'm assuming there is a lot of planning involved. Cheers.
