First Song Post - Last Ride ft Chris Feener

Here is a fun collaboration I did with Bob Gibbs (Bass) and Chris Feener (Last Solo). Everything else was done by me. Enjoy and let me know what you think. https://soundcloud.com/mu...t-ride-ft-chris-feener

My thoughts are and I am no expert but here you go. the rhythm guitars need to come down so you can hear the drums and the solo guitar in the first half or 2/3 of the song. It sounds like a killer drum track just hard to hear it. When you do your solo at the end the mix is a lot better, try to get the rest of the song close to that on your rhythm
section. Very good playing and production, just get the mix better and it will be awesome. It seems a little bit over compressed to me but this is definitely not my genre so it may be ok .

The mix is nice and wide and I can hear the drums just fine. It's pretty much how metal mixes are done. However, I would pull those leads up a bit, particularly the leads before the final lead.

Is there going to be a vocal over this? It sounds like it was mixed with space for a vocal.

Dan

Definitely some very fine musicianship going on here. I wonder if you spent time with some volume automation whether this would help bring forward some of the parts as they come into and out of focus during the song, just a thought.
I think I can hear where teego is coming from in regards to the drums, there are times where I wish they had more bite, but this is great mix all the same. Looking forward to some killer vocals at some stage.

This song has fantastic performances and a strong, pedal-to-the-metal mix.  What it doesn't have is dynamics, which, I think, would enhance this tune quite a bit.  Not all metal mixes have to be at the same volume level from start to finish.  If you end up putting a vocal in this, I think it will gel together nicely.  There's definitely a lot of talent here!

All the best,
Lynn

Thanks Lynn, I really appreciate it. I am def a rookie in the recording world (1 year of experience) and tracking all instruments myself is a workout but a ton of fun. Dynamics are huge, I will keep working at it!!!!!!!!!!!

I like it!   Really cool song and a great solo at the end (though the one in the middle ain't bad either!).

Mix-wise I agree with the above.   The rhythm parts seem to occupy too much space at all times, taking a little away from everything else.  But you are still getting the point across regardless.

Did I mention the solo at the end is killer?  Great technique.  I kept listening to that ascending line at 4:08 and the sweeps at 4:21.   But a great solo still needs something to support it, and that you have.

Everything has been said above, it needs a vocal to nail it and some air, space.
