Sonar REAC driver

A Windows driver exists for Sonar to record up to 40 tracks from the Roland REAC digital snake (a 100Mbit Ethernet connection).
 
Monitoring is done via an audio interface such as FA-66, Quad Capture, Octa Capture (a clock can be connected from the REAC devices to the audio interface).
 
The REAC driver documentation states that overdubbing is not possible because the monitor will have an app. 1 second latency.
 
I was wondering if anyone knows how to work around this so that overdubbing would be possible?

    I'm not sure I understand what you're difficulty is.

    If you're using the REAC driver to capture live audio being fed from a digital snake and recording it into Sonar I can't see what the difficulty would be in doing over dubs.

    There's very little info on the REAC driver in the Cakewalk Knowledge Base FAQ.

    It's actually a ROLAND product to go along with their digital snakes and the V series recording/mixing consoles. I'm not sure it even works with current SONAR versions. Earliest version were Sonar Sonar 7, 8 & 8.5 but hasn't been updated since 2010.

    The Roland site says it's compatible with Sonar x1 X2 and I would assume X3.

    Have you tried getting more info from Roland?

    The latest "Sonar REAC Recording System User's Guide" available here states that the driver works with Sonar X2 and Windows 8.  It also says:
    "When monitoring the sound from the REAC system via the recording system, there will be
    approximately one second of latency. Since additionally-recorded audio tracks will need to be offset
    relative to previously-recorded tracks, this system is not suitable for use in multitrack recording
    (overdubbing)."
    Roland also has the page describing the "Cakewalk SONAR X2 Producer REAC Recording System":

     
    I contacted Roland and they said it overdubbing was not possible, presumably for the reason above.

    It just means you can't overdub over the snake. You're still able to capture a band live and later go into the studio and add overdubs.
     
    Or are you intending to use the snake in the studio?


    All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

    Yes, ditto my question, You just use a proper audio interface in the studio. That system was designed for live work and not studio. And notice that at least Roland tells you the truth instead of hiding facts.

    Yes, I was hoping to overdub using the snake.  I hoped everything would work the same if the digital audio was coming into the computer via an Ethernet driver (REAC) as with the USB/Firewire driver.
     
    But as mentioned I can get audio interfaces from Roland with the same preamps used in the digital snakes.
