Need help..any fellow VS700R/Fantom VS owners running SONAR X3e?

I'm running into an issue with the Fantom VS synth in my VS700R. I've already contacted Cakewalk support. Despite two remote sessions they haven't yet been able to confirm if the problem is with SONAR X3e (64bit) or my system. I would really appreciate if anyone could help me isolate the issue further. 
 
Basically, the issue is that the Fantom VS will not playback any MIDI while the transport is in Play mode in SONAR X3e. This includes MIDI clips on the timeline or MIDI input via a controller. If the transport is stopped, I can play through the Fantom VS fine. I can also audition MIDI through the Fantom VS using the Media Explorer as long as the transport isn't running.
 
BTW, I still have SONAR X2 (64bit) installed and the Fantom VS does function as expected in X2.

    seems to playback midi on mine OK.
    Running X3e 64-bit on Win 8.1
