Take a Moment.

http://sclk.co/s7m5gb
I completely redid this song.
I used a Spanish acoustic feel for the drama of a breakup.
I tried to get the drama with a minor to major in the chorus.
This is very different for me. I really have no clue what the category should be.
Technical comments welcomed of course.

Glenn, this is a terrific song.  I'm a sucker for that Spanish flavor so I like this arrangement.  I do hear a kind of jerkiness in the rhythm, off hand.  Perhaps if you bring the lead vocal up a notch or two, that might balance the rhythm somewhat.  With a minor tweak or two, this could be a stellar production.

    All the best,
    Lynn

"I used a Spanish acoustic feel for the drama of a breakup." I broke up with a Spanish acoustic once? It was horrible, the thought of someone else caressing her fingerboard? Castanets really would go well with this? (seriously) Maybe some tambourine? And or some trumpets to give it a south of the border flare? But "everybody" is a producer, I know...

Interesting tune, not our usual fare. My experience has been that they take a moment, think it over, and then come back for more "of my money..."

    Good ideas.
I'll think seriously about the horns and castanets. They probably would fit nicely.
Thanks guys. I was feeling blocked on this one and was hoping for this kind of input.

Now that was different..   in a good way.

It has a bit of an old skool feel for me, like something from the 60's but with a more modern production.  Love the guitar work.

The rhythm does feel like it's loping along a bit though... can't quite put my finger on it but it feels like it should be "smoother" to better support the song.  Maybe some consistent percussion (castanets or otherwise) might help help bridge each section.

Agree that this could really use more latin percussion, not just castanets. Really like the song and the mix as well. I'd suggest muting your current drum track altogether, record several layers of latin percussion, then see if your drum track still works.

Yes, that makes sense. This made me think of flamenco percussion like stomping boots and synchopated hand claps.
    Thanks guys.

Great job.  I love the looseness and originality.  Really good mix too.  Nice song.  A good production all around.
