Korg nanokontrol2 - generic surface and act controller

So I have been using my nanokontrol2 in mackie controller mode but I don't like it because I can't control the busses with it in that mode only the tracks. Yesterday I looked at setting it up using Act. I like this as I can switch between tracks and busses as well as control plugins. However it is hard now to map my mute, solo, record buttons on each strip to Act. I noticed that some tutorials suggest setting up a generic surface with an act controller. Can I control both tracks and busses with a generic surface and switch between them? Can both Act and the generic surface be used at the same time?
