"Z3TA+ 2 is not properly installed"
I've posted this before but didn't get any solution so I'm putting it out there again just in case someone can think of something. I've contacted Cakewalk support about this ages ago but have gotten no response from them. My first Sonar purchase was a couple of years ago: the X2 Producer Production Suite, which included Z3TA+ 2 among other things. Since then I've upgraded to X2 and am now running X3e. I recently bought a new rig and installed everything from scratch. Not wanting to install X1, I just installed X3 and figured that I could just install Z3TA+ 2 from the X1 installation discs by deselecting everything except the synth. I tried this, and Z3TA+2 seemed to install OK. It asked for and accepted my registration code. But when I try to run it (either the standalone or the VST), the synth loads and then tells me ""Z3TA+ 2 is not properly installed. Please reinstall it using your original setup program." After which the synth makes no sound (although I can use the interface). I've tried running the standalone as administrator, but I just get the same error message. So what gives here - for what possible reason could it not have installed correctly? I've tried installing it twice with no joy. Is it possible that since I bought the synth as part of the Production Suite, Z3TA+ 2 is tied to X1 and unusable anywhere else? I certainly don't recall reading anything of that nature when I bought the package. It would certainly suck if it was. Is there anyone out there who bought the synth as part of Production Suite and can confirm whether or not it works in other DAW's or whether or not it works without them having X1 installed? This is such a pain because I have so many old projects that use Z3TA+ 2 and I cannot work on them until this is sorted out. I guess as a last resort I could try installing X1, but I'm hoping someone might have some clues before I take that route!

I'm assuming you've checked you account for z3ta3 v2 download. I jumped from 8.5 to x1e expanded in dec 2011. I see I upgraded to z3ta3 v2 in march of 2012. I don't remember what was in the production package, was v2.0 even out at the time? I sure a phone call would clear it up.

Hey sharke I vaguely remember something similar happening with Dim Pro when I installed X1 on a new PC. I'd originally got Dim Pro with Sonar 7 Pro Suite and I ended up uninstalling X1 then installing everything from 7 thru 8.5 to X1 which seemed to solve it. Sorry I can't be more specific as it was a over a year ago but maybe installing X1 will fix your problem. Hopefully someone else might be able to offer something more solid.

It seems odd that Cakewalk bundled Z3TA+2 in the SONAR installer on disk, it is a separate installer in the download version. I doubt it is an X1 issue. There is only one version of Z3TA+2. No special version was created for the X1 Production Suite. My installer looks like the one shown on this page http://www.cakewalk.com/S...013264/Z3TA-2-1-Update Usually when Cakewalk products complain about a bad installation it is because of messed up registry entries. When re-installing make sure the registry entries for Z3TA+2 are removed prior to re-installing. Run the installer as administrator. Make sure you have the v2.1 installer, check your store account for the installer. I think we have had this discussion before an you claimed the DVD you have contains the 2.1 version so this may not be necessary. Just to be sure, the 64bit Z3TA+ 2_64.dll properties page should show file version 2.1.0.177.

Yeah it was bundled on the X1 Production Suite disks. You have to uncheck everything except Z3TA+ 2 if you want to install it separately. I did remove all registry entries before trying the install again. There is no separate installer for Z3TA+ 2 on the installation discs. You can only install it via the autorun.exe installer. Other details: the version on those discs is version 2.1 - as far as I know there hasn't been another update since then. It does not appear as a separate download in my store account, presumably because the installer is included in the Sonar X1 Production Suite installer. It says it's not installed properly - can anyone confirm the file structure of their installation? On my machine, there is a folder at C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Z3TA+ 2 which contains folders called "Arpeggios," "Documentation" and "Resources," and then there is another folder at C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins\Z3TA+ 2 which contains both the .dll and the .exe. The Z3TA+ 2_64.dll properties page does show file version 2.1.0.177.

Sharke, my z3ta+2 folders are just as you show with the .dll the same version as scook shows.

I recall going through the version discussion before. The installer bit is new to me. The files and locations are OK except where is the user data? I am guessing under C:\ProgramData. I relocated it on my machine. The user data contains the "MIDI Arpeggios", "MIDI Learn", Programs, Tunings and Wavetables directories. Here is my registry entry (serial number redacted). [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\z3ta+\2.0] "Dll Path"="C:\\Program Files\\Cakewalk\\Vstplugins\\Z3TA+ 2" "Version"="2.1" "AppData Path"="C:\\Program Files\\Cakewalk\\Z3TA+ 2" "UserData Path"="n:\\Cakewalk\\Z3TA+ 2\\Z3TA+ 2" "User Name"="Steve Cook" "Company Name"="" "Serial Number"="CWZ3200..." Well that's interesting. I also have Z3TA+ installed, as part of the X3 installation, and the C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Z3TA+ folder contains Arpeggios, Documentation, Resources, Tunings and Wavetables directories. However the C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins\Z3TA+ 2 folder only contains Arpeggios, Documentation and Resources. So it seems Tunings and Wavetables are missing from my Z3TA+ 2 installation?

Isn't the path C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Z3TA+ 2, the C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins\Z3TA+ 2 contains the dll and exe. Are you sure Tunings and Wavetables are not with the rest of the user data? My Z3TA+ classic and Z3TA+2 layouts are the same as yours.

My z3ta+2 is also from X1 Producer Production Suite (boxed discs). I have all the directories that scook mentions + Resources (the gui bitmaps). It runs fine, so something in your installation/configuration must be wrong.

Here is the complete Z3TA+2 layout: Arpeggios, Documentation, Resources folders with uninstall and reghelp files are located in C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Z3TA+ 2 The dll and exe are in C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins\Z3TA+ 2 "MIDI Arpeggios", "MIDI Learn", Programs, Tunings and Wavetables folders are the relocatable user data (which I am guessing are defaulted to C:\ProgramData\Cakewalk\Z3TA+ 2)

One more idea, given the installer is integrated in the DVD version, I wonder if the dll dependencies are not getting updated. The download X1 Production Suite uses a stand alone installer for Z3TA+ 2 which checks for dependencies, the integrated installer may not. It may be the disk based installer does need X1 (at least the SONARPDR.exe) installed to cause the libs to get installed. See if Cakewalk will add the stand alone v2.1 installer to your store account, it might make a difference. The dependency walker referenced in http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/2950211 may help nail down the problem.

This seems to be part of the problem - I don't have C:\ProgramData\Cakewalk\Z3TA+ 2 - I only have a folder there for Z3TA+. And what's also weird is that this folder only contains "MIDI arpeggios" and "Programs" folders - the "tunings" and "wavetables" folders are at C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\z3ta+
Nowhere do I have "tunings" or "wavetables" files for Z3TA+ 2.

Looking at my entry here, it seems that my UserData Path is C:\Cakewalk Content\Z3TA+ 2 - and it is here that my Tunings and Wavetables folders are. So I don't know why that UserData path is different in my installation, but surely the fact that the registry entry is pointing to that folder, and the relevant folders seem to be there, should mean that it wouldn't be an issue?

I am guessing about ProgramData path, the "MIDI Arpeggios", "MIDI Learn", Programs, Tunings and Wavetables folders should be located in the directory specified in the "UserData Path" key in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\z3ta+\2.0 It has been a while since I installed Z3TA+ 2 but IIRC the location of the user data path could be specified in the installer. It seems the Z3TA+ 2 installer included with the disk based version of X1 Production Suite has issues. I would petition Cakewalk to provide the free standing installer of Z3TA+2 v2.1.

I relocated my user data. It has been a while and I do not recall if it was an option during the installer or a manual process with regedit. Thank you, it seems like Cakewalk Content is the default location. As long as the registry resolves to a good location, it should not be an issue.

Yeah I just went with the default path the disc installer gave, which was the Cakewalk Content folder. Regardless, that shouldn't cause any problems as long as the registry entry is correct. Well I just bit the bullet and installed X1 and lo and behold, Z3TA+ 2 is now working. After all that, I'm going to hazard a guess that it wouldn't work until X1 had registered. Which means it is tied to X1 in the Production Suite. That's really lame. I might well contact Cakewalk and ask them to provide me with a standalone installer.

This sound like a confirmation of #13 above. The interim solution only costs about 200MB and provides the added benefit of providing the last XP compatible version of SONAR on which to test plug-ins and projects.

Alright so I have contacted Cakewalk support and asked them if it's possible to add a Z3TA+ 2 installer to my store account. It seems like a pretty fair request given that I purchased the synth and that I was never warned that it would be tied to X1. I'd like to see an end to this issue once and for all. Because you know what? I totally HATE typing "Z3TA+ 2"
