metronome icon of the future?

My parents brought my old mechanical metronome I had as a child when they recently came to visit.  I'm thinking that by the next generation, they'd be wondering why the metronome icon is shaped as such, and why the choice of 'bell click click click' sounds as default.

I'm actually looking to get a mechanical metronome for my daughters piano practice.......this way, they'll know and SEE what an actual metronome is supposed to be like.

Cool!  My children will be able to use mine (it still works); but at this stage the younger one finds the rhythm buttons more fascinating than the keys, and the older one as taken to the semi-toy casio (with smaller and lighter keys than my fully weighted piano keyboard).  To her credit, her playing has blossomed since we got that casio, and she is now showing more interest in the piano.

    Good for you Yap!!
We also have a small Casio keyboard in which the keys light up (for them to learn the notes/melody). I get a lot of joy just seeing the little ones self-motivated in practicing on their own.......it helps that they all can sing in key (which I encourage them to use to figure out the notes).
I only wish I could play the piano well enough to teach them properly, but I suppose it might be better to get them a "real" classical instructor.
