My album is out for FREE

Hi, everyone! I'm proud to announce that the album I've put over 2 years of hard work into is finally out! You can get Emerald City at the link below:

Be sure to leave your comments. For those wondering why I'm choosing free, bear in mind that my goal was never quite to become a superior songwriter, but to really learn most aspects of production. My sophomore album will put a lot more focus on songwriting.

    Congrats, David!   Well done.

After listening through the album, I realized that some of the songs (like Robot Arm) remind me of They Might Be Giants - slightly twisted lyrics over layered poppy music.  Cool.  You've also got some nice vocal harmonies in there.

BTW...   nice trumpet solo added in Shine.

Thanks so much guys- I didn't actually realize anyone replied to this post!

Thanks a lot, notnat- that's refreshing to hear, I really do want to set myself apart from the styles of the times a bit, as well as really having a very wide range of genres.

stevec, I have to admit that my iPod has more TMBG than ANY other artist. They're probably my biggest inspiration, having SO many different styles and really oblique lyrics (although recently i've wanted to get back to my original style a little more, haha)

XD @ TheBand my second least-greatest fear

    Big thanks guys for listening!

Do I detect a slight Ben Folds Five influence as well? Great stuff!

Fun inventive songs  - I listened to the whole thing, and quite enjoyed it. Thanks for the free music! My favourite tracks: Emerald City and Kids on the inside. Robot Arm get's special props for the fun idea and Lyrics.

My constructive criticism (only read if such is appreciated ;-) ):
There are some weaknesses in the vocals on some tracks, imho - sometimes just lack of confidence, sometimes slightly off key. The double tracked bits generally work pretty well as an overall improvement making the vocals sound fuller and better (e.g. on Reply), but there is also a few spots where harmonies are off.  On some tracks you sound really pretty good (Emerald City especially), probably reflecting your development over the years. Other vocal tracks have definite room for improvement in places, imho, e.g. Mountain Man, Bridge - if you ever go back to these songs, it might be worth reworking the vocals to make them shine.
The combo of electronic and acoustic instrumentation in Emerald city works really well - something to build on.

@Starise, thanks for taking notice! Hopefully you enjoy it :)
@sharke, definitely, piano-pop was my thing on this album. The next upcoming things ALL sound completely different, haha!
@Hemul: Hi, Hemul, welcome aboard! (actually I mistaked you for spacealf when I first saw you avatar) Thanks for the constructive criticism- I do agree on the weakness of the vocals, twas long after I recorded a lot of those songs when i realized that I need to actually breathe and use air when I sing (and sing out of the FRONT of the mouth, not INTO it!) I think for Mountain Man specifically I was going for a lighter tone, but I've known since I called it done that it needs a lot of patchwork. Thanks again!

Thanks to all you guys so far who listened and commented, this was a fun album to work on and there is always gonna be more new stuff on the way!
