How to change or setup midi for sound when using SMF files?

Hey guys, I have been going back to my old motif XS and converting all the tracks I have over to SMF files to use in Sonar. The purpose for this is to make better mixes and use some other VST sounds I have from Maschine and Kontakt. I know how to import or open the SMF files in X2 Producer and the midi notes show.The problem is trying to add a VST to each track and change the sounds from all being one instrument. For example, I pulled up a SMF track and inserted the Cakewalk tts module and all the notes played but only using one instrument. By the way I'm not using any keyboard controllers or anything just want to used the VST's on any track that I want. I have all the VST's setup properly I just have problems with using midi which is the reason I used hardware synths for years. So how would I get the midi notes to play using any VST including the stock sounds that come in X2 Producer? Thanks in advance!

    Well, you need to individually select the instrument per channel in TTS... if you don't, then everything will play as a piano.
     
    Why not in the first instance keep using the motif as a sound module, driven from Sonar?.. then, change out instruments one at a time to suit...

    I don't own the motif anymore. I figured it out thanks for your help.
