5 electronic songs by Deep Rain

Hello,
I would very much value any input the users of this forum may have for me on any of the below songs! I made Black Hole Birdie back in 2010, but the last 4 were made all within two months. Only the Talking Heads song is a cover. The two last songs ending with JKB have singing by a friend of mine, while I sing in the Talking Heads cover.

I look forward to any input, thanks!

One question I have that I have for you Sonar Experts:

When I have a hard bass drum coming in, the volume of other instruments goes down very quickly, and then restores as the bass drum goes away. I have noticed that this only happens on some speakers and headphones. Great headphones like Beats do not show the symptoms, however, which I find strange... How can I fix this problem?

    Thanks!

I listened to your version of Once In a Lifetime because I really like that song. I mean what I am about to write in the best way; You should spend some more time listening to the Talking Heads version. The arrangement, and the mix on their version of the song is practically a lesson or master class on how to arrange and mix for great sound. Go listen to it and get your mind/ear connection tuned in to what is happening in the presentation they make with that song.

Then go mix your music like you own it.

    all the best,
    mike

Like Mike I listened to "Once in a Lifetime" because I think it is a classic.  Mike offers very sound advice.

One piece of advice I would like to offer try one song at a time you will get better responses, I have found it also pays to listen and comment on the other contributors here, it is not required but it is polite.

Thanks Mike for the comment. I probably should have asked for constructive comments though. Not really looking for comments that don't point me in the right direction...

You may feel like I was trying to copy the talking heads song, but far from it. Was just going for a recognizable talking heads cover, but you should probably see my covers band... far from copying any song... just do a new thing every time.

You're totally right about Talking Heads having an awesomely mixed song though. Interesting history about that song of course!

    Hi Alexander,
The comment about Fresh Batteries was a reference to power supply fortitude. The symptom you describe, in the absence of some specific ducking effect being applied, is a heads up that the power supply of a system may not be stout enough to handle the bass without exhibiting the symptom of momentary power loss. The concept isn't just related to batteries but also power supplies hooked up to wall power.

I guess I should have listened to "D is For" earlier... I like what you did with it.

Never the less, my comment about "Once in a Lifetime" was not based on an expectation of hearing an exact copy of that song. Far from it, I enjoy the idea that you were pushing it away from that sort of expectation. My comment was a veiled attempt to suggest that I was left with the impression that you had not listened to your own mix critically. People that are familiar with my habits know that I rarely offer suggestions on what I think "you" should do with your mix, and the very few times I do are occasions when I sense there is something really cool going on... something cool enough that it makes me want to make some attempt at steering someone in the direction I think they are trying to head towards. This was one of those occasions, and I thought applying some critical listening and then making choices, that suit your personal interest, would be a good thing for that song.

Anyways, I'm sorry we got off on the wrong foot. I've been listening to all your other stuff the past few minutes and I really dig it. I like the sense of adventure. The mashing of fresh sounds, and the quirky sensibility. I hope you keep sharing music with us. I'll be lurking around and listening.

     all the best,
    mike

"Power..." Do the electrons flow? Or do the holes "around the electrons" flow? (trick question)
