Cheated My Way Past Some Screen Display Issues

Hi Gang...

Well... I've got really good friends... that's for sure!

My friend Robert who gifted me the two Mac Pro's I have just gave me a huge Apple Cinema Display...

This beast is a 30" screen which I have set at 2560x1600 resolution!

Now, the control portion of the Track view uses appprox 1/4 of the screen and the rest are clips/date... and I can show approx 20 tracks with all the primary controls (not sends) visible for all those tracks!

This is amazing... the Control Bar has everything shown and near 3" of empty space at the far right...

I'm guessing even Lanes will be a lot more tolerable for me this way, eh? ;-)

Right now I have it on the older Mac Pro ( dual Xeon Quad 3.2GHz - 16GB) and some day soon I hope to have the newer Mac Pro (dual Xeon 6-Core 3.2GHz - 64GB) up and running!

Now this is more like what the experience is supposed to be like, right?

I hope everyone here gets some stuff like this... It sure makes me feel different working... Now to figure out how to keep my electric from getting turned off! that would be a shame right now I think...

I hope this inspires others who can to share their older gear with the less financially secure artists they know... It changes lives!

    Very cool, Keni.
On a similar note, I inherited my wifes 64 bit PC a few weeks ago.
We got it for her two years ago, and I had been shopping for something since my trusty XP machine died on my birthday last year. I had pressed my Vista laptop into service since then. It worked, but wasn't a 100% solution.
It did, however, allow me to run X3(32 bit).
Well, about a week after she chided me for getting my Epiphone Riviera P93, she called me and presented me with a proposition. How about if she got an iPad, she gave me her PC? I pondered on it for all of 3 seconds and told her I could live with that. She was massively under using the power of the PC and the iPad would suit her needs.
Now my studio is rockin' and we are both happy with what we've got. A huge gain for a minimal investment.

Ah Yes ... I have a 2560x1600 monitor. The desk space of two HD monitors ... on one screen!

Of course, after you experience this set-up, you're ruined for anything else ... unless 4k...

    Good Stuff!

I'm glad you both ended up happy with your new homes... I can easily understand the varying needs. Especially as needs change!

I'll bet you're enjoying 64 bit, eh? At first it was a bit daunting as I was using so many older 32 bit plugins... Now those that come with Sonar are so good that it's very easy to work with these... I have very minimal 32bit plugins that I need these days... I think the only two really are VSampler (I love the Will Lee Sadowsky 5-String Bass that I've been using since early GigaSampler days) and occassionaly a plugin called Spinner LE which is a very cool Leslie Emulation... But even that I am using less often...

Have fun with the new gear!

    Ha!

Yes... My friend just upgraded to dual (or is it three?) 4K monitors... So he gave me one of these...

Now the widgets finally appear small enuf to use a very small screen footprint... this is delightful!

Now to get the newer MacPro built so the older one will be my mobile rig for live recording (with the 22" Apple Cinema I was previously using)...

    ...and I should not forget...

Hoping for the Zoom issues to be addressed! ;-)

I'm sure that the 1600px of vertical space it great, but I'll still take two 1920x1080 monitors.  The 3840px of horizontal space vs the 2560px does it for me better.  To each his own - glad you are happy with your new arrangement.

    Hi Blades...

Yes, two screens are better than one for many things... but it doesn't help increase the vertical space for displaying any one area's view... Such as Track View... You are limited to the 1920 (still not bad) for the Track View...

Now Two 2560x1600 screens would really rock! ;-) If you have a desktop area large enough and can keep them out of the way of affecting the audio monitoring...
