Bouncing Tracks: a shortcut?

First off, my workflow: I write with MIDI, tweaking parts and arranging. I keep my MIDI and softsynth Audio tracks separate too (mostly because I oft times use multiple MIDI tracks for the same synth).

When I reach the point where the song is ready to mix, I render all the MIDI into separate audio tracks. After a little housekeeping (archiving the MIDI and softsynth audio tracks, re-org'ing my folders and whatnot) I then have clean audio to work with where I build my mix up.

So, the rendering process: I do it track by track. Selecting the MIDI track, soloing it, selecting the corresponding soft-synth audio track (It's one of my biggest gripes SONAR can't auto-detect this btw) and bouncing it down to a new track. Then I re-name that track, re-route that track (to it's corresponding bus) and move that track to it's corresponding folder. It's a bit tedious. I've long suspected I could bounce down multiple tracks to separate audio tracks but experimentation seems to indicate that't not possible? Is there any other shortcut for rendering all the MIDI tracks to discreet audio tracks?

Batch freeze is available in Duckbar. Other than that it may be faster to freeze each track and drag the frozen audio to new audio track(s) than using the bounce option.

Ohhhhhh. I thought Cake hired the guy who did this, but maybe this is new? Interesting, though I'm bummed there's no general FAQ that explains it all.

Ne'ertheless, I think I'm hosed since freezing will capture all the MIDI routed to a synth and I want discreet source tracks rendered as discreet audio tracks. Grrrr.... this seems so obvious!

Wicked, I work exactly the same way you do. A macro that could do this would surely be most helpful, but I've found no way to keep the selections active and correct with any macro software that I've tried. I think it has to be built into Sonar to work properly.

Yah, that's what I'm figuring too. It's not a world-ending thing, I usually do the rendering whilst I watch cartoons on my second monitor, but I could really save some time if it were easier. I know Cake likes to refer folks to Freezing, but I think the Bounce commands could use a little steroids to bridge the gap...especially when you've got multiple tracks accessing the same soft synth.

Wicked I feel your pain as I work exactly the same way also.  I wonder if the bakers know how many of us work this way?  Are we in the extreme minority?  It would be interesting to find out how many are working this way.

The reason people say the vinyl sounds better is because the music was better.

Yah, it's funny because all we need is some more options in the "destination" section of the bounce dialog, particularly "Separate Tracks" when source is "Tracks". It would be great to hit that command and go have a smoke and come back and have my 30 or so audio tracks all bounced down. Even if I do have to rename/reroute/re-folderize them it still saves a ton of time.

So, the rendering process: I do it track by track. I work this way as well. Just thought I'd add to the crowd so Cake knows there are quite a few users who do this.

I've always wished there was a way I could select multiple tracks at once, have Sonar intelligently discover which MIDI tracks are assigned to which synth, bounce each MIDI track to individual audio tracks, and, finally, automatically assign a name to the new audio tracks based on their corresponding MIDI track names. This would be a huge time saver! Manually assigning the audio tracks to buses and such is fine; I don't really see a way around that. If this could be implemented in X4 I'd be so happy!
