thansk for teh help with comping!

I am trying to track a contiguous bass line one section at a time and I would like to use the auto cross fade between the take lines and I do not think I work and it did in layers on x2.  or am just thick ?

Not thick! Clips can't overlap in a single take lane; it's what allows for the simple clip splitting that makes comping so easy. There are three ways to deal with this:

  • Record into tracks
  • Create a new take lane, drag one of the overlapping clips into this lane, and add a fade in and fade out manually to the two clips to create a crossfade
  • Collapse the take lanes, because you can auto-crossfade in the parent track if the "child" take lane tracks aren't visible.

Hopefully one of these will work for you...in the future, please consider posting this in the forums so the answer can benefit others with the same problem. This may seem like a basic question, but it has tripped up a lot of people (including myself before I figured out comping).
