Modern Plugins missing from Plugin Manager Default Layout
Hello y'all. Longtime Sonar user, since the days of Guitar Tracks 2. Recently upgraded from Sonar 8.5 Prod. to X3 Studio. I am loving the improvement, but I am having some difficulty with a couple of plugins. I've been a fan of Antress' Modern series plugins: . I am a particular fan of the vacuumer plugin, and the Silver Series Compressor. I mostly use the two for mixing drums, both individual and the submix. They are, unfortunately, 32-bit, and I know that there isn't any native bitbridge support for non-Producer versions of Sonar X3. I have bought jbridge, and it was a bit successful, but then I started having problems with some plugins disappearing. I have did a full reset on my VST folders so that I could do full rescanning of my folders, and no such luck. I even selected the subfolder for my VST folder to specifically target the Antress .dll files, and they still do not register in Cakewalk. Is there a reason why the VSTs are not showing up? Is there a glitch with Sonar? This was not an issue with Producer 8.5. Any insight would be appreciated. I'm running a gateway GT5692 with Windows 7.

BitBidge is included with every version of X3, see the second line in the instrument section http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/SONAR/Versions. There is only one version of BitBridge so although I run 64bit X3 Producer on Win7, it should work the same in the other versions of X3. Just downloaded the Antress FullPack4950.zip, unpacked the ModernPlugins4950.rar into "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins\ModernPlugins4950", and ran SONAR. The plug-ins scanned fine. I then loaded a couple of the plug-ins into a test project and they seemed to work OK. I don't use jBridge so cannot offer any specific suggestions for using jBridge.

I did a work-around with JBridge, where the program processed the Antress VSTs, and then created wrapped-around .dll files. That remedied the problem, but since the Modern and Silver editions for the Compressor and Equalizer have different coloring, and they couldn't be separated since they both have the same file name, I was a bit annoyed. I went back to the plugin manager in Cakewalk, and I removed the jbridge-related file folder paths from the scanning directory. I then resetted the database, and performed a full rescanning. The Antress VSTs went missing again, and I wondered if this was due to them being potentially corrupted or otherwise affected. So I deleted them from their folders, and X3 identified the 37 VSTs as missing. I then unzipped the file again to their former file locations, and the background scan ran again. The VSTs were not identified, and the total number of available VSTs remained the same. I repeated this process again, and deleting the files registers in Sonar. It just doesn't add them to the database. So they're acknowledged, but not added. But when they're deleted, the deletion is recognized. The total number of available VSTs remains the same.
To think, I only have about 150.

Are any entries for them appearing in the registry (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\SONAR Producer\Cakewalk VST X64\Inventory)? Sometimes, I've found that some settings don't get set properly and need to be over-ridden for them to appear.

I have sometimes found with 8.5 that certain plugins just don't show up at all in the 64 bit Sonar environment. eg. Flux Bittersweet. Maybe this is continuing with X3. I would love to know what makes most 32-bit plugins eligible for BitBridging and yet some just don't show up at all.
Sonar Platinum (Newburyport) / Win 8.1 64bit / Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 / Absynth / Kontakt / Play / Superior Drummer 2 / ESP LTD guitar / etc Twilight's Embrace - gothic/death metal | Other works - instrumental/soundtracks

They are showing up in the registry. I'm thinking of deleting them, then re-running the VST scanning software. I've noticed this in the past, as well! I would normally install the x86 version of the software so that all the plugins would show up. I was hoping that it'd no longer be a requirement to get everything to work.

This is what the Reset button does in Preferences > File > VST Settings "Scan Options"

I meant actually deleting them via windows explorer, not deleting the registration of the VSTs.

Okay, so I deleted the modern plugin entries from (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\SONAR Studio\Cakewalk VST X64\Inventory), and then ran X3. The background scan specifically registered those VSTs, but the summary report stated: 0 added, 0 missing. I checked the Bitbridge Server Configuration Settings tab in Preferences, and Server 1 lists 0.00mb of RAM being used. When checking windows processes in Task Manager, bitbridge.exe is not running. When I run it manually from the Shared Utilities folder, the process shows up, but nothing happens. So at this point, is it a bitbridge issue? Note: in cakewalk's Plugin Manager, I've set folder defaults to uncheck the "load using JBridge wrapper" option. So at this point, native Bitbridge should be the only thing being used for bridging 32-bit plugins.

BitBridge only starts up when a 32bit plug-in is loaded into a project.

And the projects that I'm running have 32-bit plugins. Some work. Some, like the Modern Plugins, do not.

Some older plug-ins need the host to run as administrator. I have read suggestions to set Bitbridge to run as administrator along with XP compatibility mode.

That's actually a great piece of advice, and I have done so. It seems that it's not making a real difference, because bitbridge.exe is not starting when Sonar X3 projects are loaded.

I do not know why BitBidge is not starting when a project containing 32bit plug-in is loaded. Unless 32bit SONAR is loading the project. The Windows Task Manager should show the 32bit plug-ins in the Applications tab and BitBridge.exe in the Processes tab.The Windows event viewer may have logged the failure. This may require a call to tech support to resolve.

I have also had issues with some 32-bit plugins being invisible to X3, most notably TP Basslane and ValhallaFreqEcho. They all worked fine in X2 and at some point along the X3 cycle just stopped showing up. Definitely something wrong.

After speaking with Dean in Tech Support, it seems that the VSTs are not showing up as such in the registry. I've tried cleaning up my C++ development libraries, to no effect. So it seems that the answer via tech support is not successful.
I found success by going back to JBridge, renaming different versions of the same plugins, and then running those plugins through JBridge again. I now got everything back up. So I guess if you're having issues with Bitbridge, and you don't want to install the x86 version of Sonar, try JBridge. It's not free, but the cost is rather minimal.
