[Solved] Video Display requires reboot.... any ideas?

This is not a Cakewalk issue per se, but there are a lot of smart, computer savvy people on this forum so I thought I would throw this out.
 
I have a Dell XPS 8700 with two Dell 22 inch video monitors that are configured as one screen.  After my first boot-up the icons appear slightly larger on the display and Sonar X3 , when opened, is slightly "fuzzy" - the resolution is not right.
 
After I reboot Windows 8.1 the screen icons are slightly smaller and Sonar X3 is at normal resolution. 
 
This happens every time.  I have a Dell E2209W and a Dell G2210 monitor.  The 2209 is connected using a digital cord and the 2210 is using an analog cord.
 
The video card is an AMD Radeon R9 200 series.  Could it be that I need to run both monitors using DVI-D cables...?
 
I have an updated Video driver.

    Possibly you have two different drivers available for your graphics card and they are getting loaded on different reboots. You might be able to confirm this by tracking down the specific driver files under the properties tab in device manager. Or you might be able to resolve the issue by uninstalling and re-installing the driver.

    Interesting thought on  two different drivers.... I can only see one video card driver, but who knows - I will look at this more closely.  I seem to have the up-to-date  AMD driver. In looking at my monitor drivers, it seems like there may be both a Dell driver and  Microsoft driver - so maybe this is where the variable is.

    Hey Slartabartfast - using your suggestion I started hunting around on the Dell site and found that there
    was indeed an update for the AMD Catalyst Control Center - this seems to have solved a good deal of my display issues.  Sonar now looks fine after initial boot-up.  Interestingly, the screen icons are still a little large and some of the other graphics don't seem quite as sharp - but Sonar looks great and that's what I really care about.

    OKay - now it's really solved.  I replaced the analog video cable (VGA) with a digital one (DVI) - so now both monitors are connected to video card with the same type of DVI cable.  The screen resolution is now correct and consistent upon initial boot-up.    Not an earth shattering upgrade, but it was getting annoying to have to reboot the system every time I turned the system on.
