Question about using an external qwerty keyboard as a midi keyboard
I have been using sonar x3 on a regular basis for awhile now.However that was in my home studio using a korg M50 as my controller.since then i have moved and am unable to use my studio machine or equiptment.
So im stuck with my laptop for now and my vstis.i have done alot of searching and trying virtual midi setups wich get recognized by sonar however the qwerty still will not play notes?
This is my first time posting here so forgive me if i am in the wrong section.
anyway i understood that this was a possible thing to do.for me this is just temporary,but any routing or advice would be gratefully accepted. right now i am trying rtp midi,i have tried loopb1,and a few others to no avail.

In addition to LoopBe1 you need a virtual MIDI keyboard Add the virtual MIDI cable to the MIDI I/O in SONAR Preferences Set the output of the virtual MIDI keyboard to the virtual MIDI cable Add a synth in SONAR Type away

You'll probably be disappointed using the qwerty/virtual keyboard for anything non-trivial, like playing music. Ok for auditioning sounds in a synth, but not much more.
I'm presuming you longer have access to the Korg, because you could just plug that into your laptop.

Paul P yes i just moved from florida back to new hampshire.i was there taking care of my dad,he was dying from emphysema.i was there a lot longer than i expected and had a full home studio,hardware and all.
so after he passed i came back,but i had to leave some things with a fellow electronic musician,as i had no room.
and i forgot the power supplies to my m50 and roland juno g.
and thanks scook,i will try that thanks!

Still does not work.i only get the hot keys that's it?
guess i will just have to wait for my key board power supplies,but thanks just the same.

The virtual keyboard has to have focus for anything to happen. This is one reason the idea has limited usefulness. The minute you click on anything else, like Sonar, your keystrokes go elsewhere and you have to re-click on the virtual keyboard again.
Some (most?) Cakewalk synth plugins allow querty input themselves. Or you can click on a ribbon along the bottom to generate notes.

ok,what about in the edit panel at the bottom,there is a keyboard edit mode,when it comes up it offers settings like computer,midi,etc.would this have any affect?and i forgot to ask,should i load this as a midi track?

@shawnbulen,yes i play guitar,for a long time actually.i have a gibson les paul traditional without any weight reduction.
it is basically an exact duplicate of a 57 les paul pickups and all,however the fretboard is far superior as it was done on a plek machine which makes it perfect,and the frets are exact with no fret buzz at all!
i also use a fender american special with texas special pickups and man are they hot!

Cool. The TriplePlay pickup turns your guitar's notes into MIDI notes. No keyboard/additional space needed: http://www.fishman.com/tripleplay I have one, works great.
