How to control buses with a Korg nanoKONTROL2?
I just picked up a Korg nanoKONTROL2 (eh, apparently I can't link). Now, I know it doesn't offer very good support for Sonar, but I'd seen people make it work, so I thought it was worth a shot. Well, it does work. The transport controls as well as all the faders, knobs, and buttons work as intended... only on the tracks. I'd really like to be able to use this primarily for buses. It seems more sophisticated mackie controllers have a button that tells the DAW to switch between tracks/buses/mains, but this one does not. Some of the control surface presets let you switch modes in the settings, but the mackie preset does not. If there's truly no Sonar-based way to get it to control the buses, then I'd be all for changing the functionality of the loop button to that of the missing switch button, I'm just not sure how to go about it. The remapping controls in Sonar are very poor when it comes to feedback, though I guess it would be a lot easier if the controller had any native support. I'm kind of trying to put a square peg in a round hole, and I get that. Just, knowing how computer input devices work, this doesn't seem like it should be a problem. Thanks you for any assistance that can be offered.

From what I can see, the button function is hard-coded on both (Korg and Makie plug-in) sides. I'm kind of trying to put a square peg in a round hole, and I get that. Just, knowing how computer input devices work, this doesn't seem like it should be a problem.
And it is not, in case you are familiar with the "computer" way to solve such problems: modify the source and recompile (the source code is published) . You can also try your luck in CC mode with my plug-in (see my signature). For ACT MIDI you have too many buttons and Generic Surface control Tracks only.

I have a Korg Nano Kontrol (not a 2). It works OK, set up as Cakewalk Generic Surface, but I had to manually set each function.

Have you managed to control buses with it?

No buses, just individual tracks and global transport buttons (play, stop, etc). I found a tutorial on setting it up in Sonar with a Google search (don't remember where it was). But there was nothing about buses. I got it, cheap, on a M/F Stupid Deal Of the Day about 6 months ago. I have a Frontier Tranzport that I use but it has started to get flakey and I wanted something for backup up. I have a Behringer BCF2000 but all I use that for is the faders and could really do away with it and not miss it. But its impressive to clients with the motorized faders working.

Thanks. I'm checking out the plugin now. I had a feeling CC mode would be the way to go. I'll keep an eye here as well as report any results.

I have the Nanokontrol2. I have to use the act surface (maybe the generic control surface would work as well?) to control the busses.

Generic Control does not work for buses. You are welcome to use my AZ Controller, it can control everything but no one (except myself) is using it so far
